RIP Stephen Hawking.

Did anyone genuinely read and or understand A brief history of time?

I read it twice a little while apart and convinced myself I sort of got it - might try again.

I read the illustrated one.  I liked the pictures.

what an incredible human being, he was. he transcended his field. i have little understanding of basic physics, let alone his work on cosmology, but i woke up this morning feeling genuinely saddened at the news of his passing. a great man who determined not to let his disability define him.

he was also for wealth redistribution and warned about the future of capitalism in an automated world

"If machines produce everything we need, the outcome will depend on how things are distributed," he wrote. "Everyone can enjoy a life of luxurious leisure if the machine-produced wealth is shared, or most people can end up miserably poor if the machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution."

He was no Feynman, but even so you don't need that kind of intellect to realise the major fork in the road technology is heading for.

Ray Wilkins :(

Always seemed like a nice bloke and was a pretty good player as well. That's a hell of a lot of caps in the era he played in. RIP

I always thought he was a bit like David Batty - when he was "allowed" to play or allowed himself to play he was a much better footballer than what people thought.

RIP.

The mental thing about that is that he was only 60. Which means that when he was at the peak of his power in the 80s he was only in his 20s.  He NEVER looked like someone in his 20s.
