See this loads, simply because the Nazi party was officially called the 'National Socialist German Workers' they believe their politics were socialist. Couple that with the successful blurring of the lines between communism and socialism and you've got a decent number of Americans who think socialist policies are, at the same time, fascistic and communist.

That would make East Germany and North Korea democracies

I agree with this. As with Brexit, before the people that vote for this shit can be forgiven and treated like human being again, they need to acknowledge the extent of their colossal fuck up.

The red states, as with the red wall, should not be "reached out to" while they continue to believe that they were right.

That has to come from their side though. It's down to the Republicans, the Tories to pull back from the divisive rhetoric and try to corral their more reactionary supporters. If any blame/demands come from the left it'll only push them further away from sense.

This position assumes that we are dealing with people who have child like levels of emotional maturity. Which they do. But the flip side is that we concede things that are important to us in order to "win them over". Immigration is a good example of this, we've all but completely given up on discussing the merits of that now because it's electoral suicide with the red wallers.

So my point here really is that there is no way back for these people until they grow the fuck up, whether we are saying it or the right are saying it. They've gone past the point of rational discourse now. Nothing we can do or say will make a difference, be it appeasement or aggressive rhetoric. I mean look at the US - Fox news has been appeasing these people for fucking decades and now they've fallen foul of the monster they created. Branded as leftists by an increasingly deranged, conspiracy focused right wing base that have been appeased for years.

We can't fix them. You can't save other people, especially not from themselves. They need to wake the fuck up of their own accord, or we need to wait for them to die. That's all there is IMO.

This red wall thing, pretty fucking sure swathes of Yorkshire and lancs have been Tory on a fairly regular on/off basis. Obviously a couple of standout results came in at Blyth and Sedgefield which was shocking but by and large it's the usual suspects throughout England who are thicker than a castle door, racist and believe any old shit if one of their 'betters' from Eton tell them the score via the usual channels. Honestly, you could be on holiday and pick them out with a probable very high percentage of correct guesses, especially when there's an international football tournament on. Red wall? Pffft. Don't lump the M62 area in with me. (Hoping the gullible cunts in Blyth etc switch straight back and think they will in all honesty).

We shouldn't let North West Durham off the hook - Thatcher might as well have nuked Consett in 1980 and  40 years later they voted Tory - I'm torn between sympathy/pity and thinking a nuke now wouldn't be a bad idea..

But surely they'd be more accepting of Yehaww McCracken III running for Alabama senate seat brings them in 1 step away from rabid nationalism, rather than Shaqwanda Goldenstein of New York trying to get them to move 3 steps toward Hippy Dippy, Pinko Communism?

I guess you have more faith in them than I do. They believe what they read on the internet and don't let anything outside of their accepted beliefs enter their thinking. It's why 40% of this country still wants Brexit to happen despite the fact that a considerable number of Yeehaw McCrackens in the Tory party, including Churchills own grandson, rebelled over it.

They just get further and further radicalized. Maybe because they keep winning tbh. I do have some hope that seeing Trump lose might take the wind out of their collective sails a bit. A large part of their identity is this notion that they are a silent majority and that "all" people think like them.

Oh, I have fuck all faith in them coming to their senses, but a step towards the middle is much more likely if they're ushered by a right-winger, right?

2 years of Biden, then 2 years of Harris. May he rest in peace.
