Dr Gloom 19819 Posted March 1, 2017 Share Posted March 1, 2017 The stupid thing is, and I suppose Merson is thick as bull's lugs so it shouldn't come as a surprise, Benitez is good at getting results and getting the best out of his squads. He's not just some chequbook manager who just signs superstars. He's very tactically aware and pragmatic. Not to mention having loads of experience of managing in this country. The comments are just borne out of what he hoped would happen. Yes, it isn't always pretty but it's clear how his style is all about tactics and organisation - I love to watch him during game; he's always busy in the technical area, making notes, shouting instructions to players and adjusting things. I think it was the champions league final for the scousers when he turned the game by introducing hamman at half time. Not the most attacking change when you're three down but he put him on so Gerard could get forward more and then they completely turned it around. I also loved watching him get on the 4th officials case all game after the bullshit pen decision, constantly making his point and keeping the ref aware that Rafa wouldn't just let crap like that slide especially if it cost us.
