If Ashley's line is that Benitez can continue to spend whatever the club generates, then surely they just need to get together and determine that that figure is, and move from there.

Yeah, that's what I meant really. He probably knows Benitez won't stay beyond his current contract because he isn't prepared to give him enough funds (I doubt Benitez is being unreasonable, he just realises the squad needs strengthening) but he wants to try and make it look like it's Benitez's fault for not signing the long-term deal first. It's amazing if so and Ashley actually thinks anyone buys that though.

Yeah, it is still his personal approach to more or less everything. Whenever he feels that he would (should) need to give in to others demands, he then readjusts the bar and sets it higher, see Keegan, Shearer and Staveley. But he always wins in the end as apart off pissing off supporters nobody cares and does hold him accountable for his stupidity.

Well we do do still have fans who think the squad will see the money if we sell off our best players

It makes sense if he's not willing to spend much and isn't that arsed about Benitez staying in the long term. Actually that doens't make sense but Ashley's mindset rarely does

Ā

Ashley willĀ fuck itĀ up by doing something stupid, he always does.Ā I fully expect Benitez to be gone in a year, if not before.

I don't know about you guys, but I feel there's going to be an announcement on a new signing in the next 70 days.Ā  :nufc:

Would be typical for us to sign someone in the six days after the transfer window closed on August 9th, 17.00 BST.

It's not as simple as that though. Last summer there wasn't the Premiership TV money, player's bonuses and Benitez's wage to pay, so still a tight budget.Ā If the club had Ā£100mil in the bank then maybe a different story.

Ā

Hopefully Mitrovic has a good world cup and generates a lot of money for a new striker (or keep him if Benitez has a change of mind andĀ the playerĀ can learn discipline).

As in that's the way Ashley works.Ā Hopefully just theĀ fringe / less qualityĀ players (or players Benitez doesn't like/play) who are on high wages.

Ā

Who are they?

Wouldn't be gutted go see any of those go if we replace themĀ

Ā

Ā

Ā

Of those I reckon Mitro is the only one on "high wages" and he still won't be in comparison to wages in the league
