I don't know if you're just getting your low and high mixed around cos going from this:

To this application of it:

... Doesn't make sense.

If xG basically tells you how many goals a player's given chances should convert to, and the player is converting at a higher rate, then they're exceeding the expected conversion - so they're either lucky or they're good.

Yeah I can see that argument, I think I was viewing xG more as a kind of running tally of goals they scored  versus goals they should have scored, all built into a single data point. Thus a lower value would be reflective of inefficiency.

As I said, I've not looked at this properly ever so that's my fault, confusion is on me. I think with my logic it was the idea that 0 would be total inefficiency and 1 would be total efficiency, and the specific number placed itself somewhere between those two values. Based on what you've outlined, I now understand - and then yes, your logic holds around interpreting it.

Either way, still a useful metric.

Was reading about Justin Fashanu recently and was reminded of this;

In his autobiography, Clough recounts a verbal dressing-down he gave Fashanu after hearing rumours that he was going to gay bars. "'Where do you go if you want a loaf of bread?' I asked him. 'A baker's, I suppose.' 'Where do you go if you want a leg of lamb?' 'A butcher's.' 'So why do you keep going to that bloody poofs' club?"'

I'm just thinking, is there any actual managers on here, and I don't mean managing young kids like Craig does? I mean actual professional managers? Or coaches? Scouts? I'm guessing there probably isn't so in which case WHO GIVES A FUCKING MONKEY'S TOSS ABOUT XG etc? Can you not just watch a game and enjoy it and have an opinion on a player without the need for a fucking excel sheet telling you what you've watched? Or do we need to be clever bastards to try and win arguments on social media and whatever? Honestly, man. I totally see the benefit TOP FUCKING CLUBS might get out of it but none of us work for top clubs in that capacity so if you're on the Excel presentation YouTube videos LOOK AWAY NOW and just enjoy the game. Even the arguments on here about it, pro and con......who fucking cares? Fish and gemmill think it's cush, most of us don't give a fuck, how's this still going on?

as above. (hmhm)

I'd rather gouge me eyeballs out with a rusty spoon than give any more than a cursory glance to pie charts, graphs, and a myriad of hotspots, colour zones and a string of numbers that'd have pythagoras scratching his head in confusion.

but hey, each to their own!   :)

Apparently the Labour Party approached him twice to stand as an MP to which he gave serious consideration to before declining to carry on in football management.  And this line is utterly brilliant, and typically Clough:

To accusations that he was a champagne socialist, Clough responded: "Of course I'm a champagne socialist. The difference between me and a good Tory is he keeps his money while I share mine."

God forbid people have an interest in something and want to talk about it on this website made specifically for people to do just that.

I don't think anyone is denying that right, merely debating their differing viewpoints.

While I fully respect the what you're saying here in many senses, I do wish to note that in my sad existence, obsessing over data and excel sheets is actually pretty fun. So yeah, I don't need to do it, none of us need to do it, but some of us just find it kinda enjoyable :D I occasionally run up excel for hobbies tbh...

Here, lads, I like me football and I like some quality boobage.

If someone comes up with an xB , x is the expectation of small nips/ size of surrounding boob, I’ll be all over it explaining why Salma is the Gold Standard.

But.

As far as likelihood of some cunt scoring a goal ?

It’s just not that interesting- in fact, it’s dull as fuck… it sucks the life out of what’s the meat and bones of watching football- being totally and utterly biased towards your own players, regardless of whether or not they’re better than your opponent.

It doesn’t matter.

Who’s got the best xG, our lad or their’s?

Who’s got the best tits, Salma or Ms. Belluci?

Enjoy the game, man.

Stand up to wipe.
