Had my first COVID test this week. I'd spent the afternoon on an interview panel with someone who tested positive 2 days later.

Its worse than that. If in of our little shits, I mean dears, gets symptoms they are also fast tracked to testing. No way can they let a paper pusher like me waste my time self isolating.

And whilst there is some valid criticism of the blatant cronyism and corruption in government  (although I don't accept the Vallance slurs,.as discussed) , there is no doubt in my mind that this pandemic is the last thing any government wants. It's not clear from the thread but is this guy advocating just letting people die at home? Because if we let the disease simply run its course then the hospitals are guaranteed to be overwhelmed so there still won't be any capacity to deal with non-covid related illnesses. Surely it's obvious that this would result in a huge death toll.

What would you do?

We had nearly 15 weeks of negative mortality.  This is going to be endemic so do we just keep locking down with the draconian measures when the avg age of mortality of Covid in the UK is 80? 

 

There have been rising number of +ve tests, fair enough that is a slight worry.  But if you look at that with ICU and Hospital admissions, nah, it doesnt worry me.  What worries me is the deaths from other causes.  The taking away of common sense and looking at science all because that cunt is making billions for him and his mates.

Who is making billions? Not Valance and Whitty.

What this fella is proposing would overwhelm the NHS and deaths from other causes would also increase as a result. This is simple logic, you don’t need to be a doctor to see it. We need to keep the virus under control, hospital admissions to a minimum and resume something like normal life but with certain restrictions.

You're wrong. The infection rate is increasing exponentially now, very much like in Spring but this time we have winter to contend with. Mortality rates and admissions are following on track exactly as you would expect them to. 400 admissions yesterday. Do nothing and the NHS will collapse anyway, rather defeating your point. I agree that we have to keep non covid care as normal as possible though.

How do we keep the virus under control?

The PCR testing has a high % of false positives.  It's also reporting that there are coronavirus present, but not whether theyre active cells, they can be on you for weeks but dead inactive cells.  Apparently there's also a large number of coronavirus strains that just makeup for the common cold.  Yet they're making up a large number of positives.  So what do we do?
 

When I was at the LGI last week for my dad in A&E (no pun) it was fucking dead.  Nobody in there at all.  A&E staff stood around chatting.  I have a friend going through chemo at the moment she said the same for the Oncology unit.

 

I have just been to buy a suit jacket.  Wasn't allowed to goto the changing room to try it on, but I could try it on in the middle of the store.  How does that make fucking sense?

Exponentially?  Keep an eye on this, that should be interesting. This thing is endemic and following seasonality.  So we should see an increase in the positives.  Hopefully we wont see deaths like we saw in March and I don't think we will.

Valance held a senior role at GSK and was awarded a lot of shares when he left. He sold 90% of them. GSK are a huge company with fingers in many pies. Shares will go up only if the vaccine works and Vallance will make a few bob. So what? In contrast the non tenderng of PPE is scandalous, I agree.

My sister will be starting chemo soon. Its a good example. If covid is rampant then she is more likely to catch it and die of it. Not that it matters to much in her case but think of all the vulnerable people in hospital who could die if you let rip?
