“The tendering process for its design and construction will begin soon - with an emphasis on utilising British design expertise and the latest green technology.

Downing Street said costs for the "construction and operation" of the ship would be confirmed after the tendering process concluded.”

Didn’t realise Hancock’s sister owned a shipbuilding company… yet.

He's now in hospital on oxygen. Wonder if he's regretting being a vaccine sceptic yet.

Isn't the "Indian" variant just a bit of a red herring in all of this?

The issue is more to do with the fact we've ended lockdown and opened the pubs etc. Everyone's back mingling again without masks and, as sure as night follows day, COVID cases are surging again.

This was predicted in the original lancet paper. Unless you close the borders, COVID is going nowhere. We either have to vaccinate everyone annually or continue with periodic lockdowns to manage the surges

Surely enough immunity in the population will stop it surging. I mean we'd gotten to a point where daily cases had levelled off anyway even in lockdown. And even if we got it down to zero, it'd come back as soon as we opened the borders again anyway.

The concern is that that variant has a degree of vaccine escape - it's only really suppressed after two doses which fewer people have.
