This kid in our Warehouse called in Monday morning to say her partner had woken up feeling shit and running a fever. She called NHS to arrange a test, got told they couldn't do it in person as showing symptoms. Received test Tuesday,  did it, sent it back, still waiting for results, so still no idea if I have to test the rest of the staff or not. Its fucking pathetic.

Am I missing something here, we keep getting told the R rate is diminishing. Yet the amount of daily infections are rising everyday. Can someone explain this please because it's got me puzzled

I can only guess it’s the delay in catching covid and displaying symptoms. Either that or they haven’t a clue what the R number is.

Where does it say the R is decreasing? We are currently having an explosion of cases, with every area of the NE going up bar York. A lot of this might be down to last minute blow outs before lockdown was implemented. Mind, my observations are that nobody gives a shit about lockdown this time around, other than pubs being shut, most people are socialising as normal. So I don't expect we are going to be in a good place come 2nd December.

 

Personally I think what we needed was a full lockdown which was strictly enforced, not this half arsed shit. If we got covid down to manageable levels by Xmas we might have been able to ride it out until spring and vaccination. Not now though.

The number of infections will continue to rise if the R rate is above 2 though, even if it’s coming down, won’t it? Although as Ewerk alludes to, how can they can an accurate idea about the R rate with the shambolic testing, tracing etc.?

Apparently a lot of shops have introduced a " click & collect" scheme to avoid having to close this time. I was really shocked by the new daily infection figures yesterday. It jumped up by a 3rd from 22,000+ to 33,000+

Anything above 1 it will increase. And its its very hard to get it this low. Even at 1 we are will have a constant rate of infections and deaths, and you have to take the lag into account. If we get it to 1 expect 600+ deaths every day for months on end. Then consider how the NHS can cope with that. I'm so sick of the incompetence of this government.

Aye, the first lockdown qas strict and got it down to 0.6 to 0.8, but this was maintained for weeks, which in turn got prevalence down. R isn't so important when prevalence is low, especially if you have an effective test and trace program. But without this, R will increase and with it so will prevalence. Prevalence gets too high, you lose control, and end up where we are, again.

We aren't getting the R figure or infections down to what they should be by the time this lockdown ends this time round. Partially because it's nowhere near as long as the first lockdown and also because it's not as strict and there's definitely less adherence to the rules.
