In Star Trek, they kept on going to planets that had undergone some unfeasible parallel evolution with earth except the Nazis had won etc. Or the enterprise was going to be eaten by a gigantic space amoeba. Whereas there were some genuinely interesting philosophical debates in the Next Generation. Followed by.... Btw, I'm really not a trekky you guys. Honest. tbh you fucking geek!
