An alternative take.

We are 3 points off safety now, if burnley beat watford we are still 3 points from safety, any other result takes safety us further away.

I think that we have to win 8 of the remaining games. Having won just one so far that would need a huge improvement in results and performances. It won’t happen.

Why 8?

Watford have only won 4 so far this season and only have two more points than us, based on the first half of the season the points total to stay up is going to be really low.

I know it doesn't necessarily work so symetrically but realistically for us to need 8 more wins to stay up, at least one of burnley, norwich or watford would also need a massive turn up in results

Because I think that it will probably still need 35 points to be safe. Watford might keep on getting poor results, as do Burnley and Norwich. But there is still the very good chance that at least one of those teams will start picking up points.

What we really need is some relentless optimism from @The Fish - he took the game to the bed wetters last time and won

It was a disappointing result and performance from some of the players, but I said beforehand that a draw isn't the end of the world. We're still within 1 win of safety and as long as that's the case going into the final day, we'll survive.

That's the thing. Lascelles is at fault for their goal, but throughout the game he was often the point at which control of possession ended, or pressure was invited. He's been guilty of the same shit for a while now. Shelvey reverted to type after a brief uptick in performance and spent too much of the game dropping deeper and deeper with aimless long balls. Longstaff was average, but his average is still not very good. ASM is trying to do it all himself when better options are available.

Replace Lascelles and Shelvey with Tarkowski and Fofana and we don't lose that game.

ASM needs to be told to pick and choose when to go for a dribble and when to playbas part of a team. Frustrating as fuck, I bet the other players hate being on his team in training.

Spot on about Lascelles, his vision, passing and composure is terrible. We have to move on from him.

Honestly, a CM of Cabaye's ability (say) would mean we were on the ball more, which would mean ASM wouldn't think that any time he does get the ball is the only time he'll get the ball for the next 5 minutes, so hopefully won't run down another blind alley trying to do it all himself.

Last season we went on a run of 2 wins in 22 games. Twenty Two.

We’re two games away from that looking like decent form

Breaking News on BBC Sport...

Burnley has requested Tuesday's Premier League game at home against Watford be postponed because of a high number of injuries and Covid-19 cases in the squad.

As bad as we've been, if we had not thrown points away against Norwich, Palace, Watford and maybe even Brentford, we'd have 23 points and be 15th.

The ability to get out of this is there if we can just get some solidity.
