Director of Football

According to some reports Emenalo isn't as nailed on as some have suggested, and that Edwards from Liverpool may still be in the mix. If that's the case whoever we get will be elite to say that least. The man who took Salah from Basel, or the man who signed him from Roma. Seems like Emenalo has the edge for that particular find. But yeah, I'd be ecstatic either way.

Aye at least we appear to be fishing in the right pond. Instead of the muddy puddles we've become accustomed to.

Who has had the director of football role before?

IIRC it’s only been the poison dwarf and Joe Kinnear .

About as bad as you can get, well maybe Shola as “loan manager” is worse

Didn't hear it properly as the mics weren't that great, but sounded like Edwards is preparing to leave Liverpool. Howe when asked about it said he didn't know anything about it, but the timing would suggest he might be the one.

Edwards apparently has confirmed he has no job lined up.

Aye the question was "I understand that Michael Edwards' departure from Liverpool is due to be confirmed this afternoon. Is that because he's joining you at Newcastle."

And the answer was "As far as I'm aware, absolutely not."

It's gonna be my boy Emenalo.

Prefer Emanelo anyway. His credentials seem very solid and he's a guardian favourite which will no doubt wind them up since he'll be joining Evil Incarnate FC.

Edwards is surely fucking nailed on as a frontrunner. He's already announced he's leaving Liverpool at the end of the season to take on new challenges.

Anyone who thinks it would be an underwhelming appointment: a lot of Liverpool fans think FSG don't spend enough yet this cunt has facilitated the signing of  Alisson, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Mane, Salah etc. Getting him in and giving him a blank chequebook might not be the worst of ideas.

At least one journalist, iirc, has said Edwards is not coming to us, and that would make sense given PIF want a director now, and not at the end of the season. I'd be more than happy with Emenalo. He was after all the first person to take Salah to England, and also had a hand in signing De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku etc.

Granted, Edwards isn't going anywhere until summer from what he has said, but is looking for a new challenge and wants to stay close to his family.

Have the new owners actually said anything to indicate that getting in a director is a priority in advance of the January window?

No, but given they're going to have to spend money in January they'll want someone in prior to ensure it's not being pissed up the wall as far as future direction goes.
