Transfers, 2024-25 season

It would take him til April to get Eddie Howe fit. Especially coming from that league. Plus he'd probably be the highest paid player at the club as a loanee.

I like the idea but I don't see it happening. He's more likely to go to Arsenal. It'll have dawned on them by then that Gyokeres is not gonna be enough to fire them to the title.

I do agree that it may take a while to get up to speed given league change but not totally on board with Eddie Howe fit notion.

A few players have come straight into the line up post transfer, albeit generally through requirement over choice.

Even if it transpires to be 55-60 min all out shifts, that's a positive. May take time to adjust to tactics and pressing standard but not sure that's the way we'll play everytime going forward.

Think worth a punt.

Agree Gykoeres is not the answer for Arsenal. Isak was.

Toney linked with a January move to the premier league.

Time for us to use our RSA connections and sort a 6 month loan.

Would be ideal given Wissa situation and Woltemade not an out and out 9. Could be a good acquisition as a focal point, providing additional depth on the faltering wings with Wissa, while allowing a change of approach with Wolts.

Never risk free given length of time out the prem but a low cost one in my opinion & he would be keen to project himself back into the England fold.

Nailed on for Spurs allegedly.

Need a proper LB to compete with Hall as well.

Was thinking we should have kept Targett who seems to be doing alright at Boro, but he would have tripped over an empty pizza box and got hepatitis if he was still on our books.

Been thinking about how we keep better hold of the ball and higher up the pitch.

I think it would be useful to bring in a defensive midfielder to allow Tonali to get further forward, getting him and Bruno who are two of our most technical players higher up the pitch would increase possession.

Not sure if that’s Miley, would love it to be but not really sure he has the mobility to play that role.

I have more faith in Miley than most, it seems but it definitely does feel like a switch in system is becoming needed. Maybe Wissa really will be the piece that instigates all that

Tonali didn’t do great at the 8 position before as well.

I think that was because Bruno was the 6 in that setup more than Tonali not being able to handle being the 8.

We need someone combative who can sit to allow Bruno and Tonali to be footballers but is better on the ball than joey now imo, he's starting to be exposed as a weak link, as is the fact that our backup fullbacks are totally different in style of play to our first choices.

Burn should remain with us as backup CB but he can't be second choice LB if hall is in front of him, they're too different.

Trips is a great player and I'd like him to retire with us but again, him and tino don't occupy remotely similar spaces and it's causing us problems. With width when our wingers have to be narrow to run beyond woltemade

Trips is a massive calming influence at certain times. He's mint and like you say Andrew I would love him to retire with us.

Burn I wouldn't want to leave. He's a mint rotation option at CB and I feel sorry in a way he's been pushed to LB as he's getting heat for him being skinned so much. Im sure he would play in goal if Howe asked him.

Sure I heard someone say that Burn said to Howe that he was “happy to cover at left back because Sven and Thiaw were the future at centre back”

Love the bloke to bits but he isn’t a modern left back. He’s been outstanding at centre back, but even then not sure he is good enough on the ball.

I reckon this is Burn's final season as a starter for us, either at CB or LB. Another player who should retire with us mind, even if he's sitting as backup. He's immense in the personality stakes and a key part of the connection between fans and club.

Apart from Burn and Joe, Murphy is the other one that stands out at being bad in possession. I mean he'd deadly in the final third but outside of that he can be utterly dreadful. And Elanga even at his best is not a possession based player. Not that you'd want your wingers to hold onto the ball for long of course but you've got to do way better than what him and Gordon have done this season.

Given some of the physicality stats posted in the Adam Clery video (we're basically shit at being physical now), maybe Howe will let some of the obsession with height and power slide i.e. more playing time for Ramsey and Miley.

At the minute I'd have Sven back up to Burn at CB, Fab gives us something none of the other CBs do but he's not the quickest and getting on like Burn is. Sven worries me a little purely because of those injuries he's had, you can't help but wonder is his form down to that? Longer term we're going to have to sort out the FB positions and obviously sort out who gets the nod between Malik and new bloke as well as Sven and new bloke at CB. Hopefully get someone who can push on to be trying to compete with Tino and Hall in the FB positions. Burn playing at LB these days is just shit recruitment on the club's part.

Burn is a consummate professional, and being a fan he totally gets what it means to play for this club, but Thiaw & Botman are better and younger options.

If we're serious about progression, we can't afford to be over sentimental.

According to Waugh, full backs are the club's number one priority for recruitment in the next window or two, so I think we'll soon be able to stop seeing Burn at LB.

Agree that Burn has got plenty life left in him at CB though. Whether that's ahead of Botman or rotating in.

I'm not sure that Botman is automatically a better starting option than Dan Burn at centre back. Botman has looked pretty average to me since coming back from his latest injury. I'd like to see both of them rotated.

I didn’t see much of him before he came here, but I seem to remember reading Tonali played more often and was better suited to playing as an 8 at Milan.

He’s been either brilliant or rather awkward. But his ability to play out from the back should always give him the edge with Burn prone to scary stuff as well.
