Wish we’d gone for semenyo instead of Elanga. Class player

He's apparently got a 65M release clause in January ffs. What is that 10M more than we paid for Elanga?

Not with that attitude I guess :cuppa:

Even if he changes his attitude, the outcome will remain the same. It's accepting reality. He'll end up at Man City or Liverpool. If either of them are in for him, he's absolutely not coming here.

I mean certain clubs can blow us out of the water for wages for a start, this summer absolutely shows that.

Tut-tut HMHM ... that attitude will get us nowhere. :rtfm::jester:

We wouldn't even go for him after having picked up Elanga. I doubt anyone at the club is ready to give up on the lad yet.

Semenyo has over his career played 70+ games as a CF, 50+ as LW and 50+ as RW.

This season he has played half the games in LW and the other RW.

He's naturally right footed but you wouldnt know it because of how good his left foot is as well.

Theirs no reason its Elanga we give up on.

Elanga is also both footed, though some (not me) are alleging that this means he's as bad with his right as he is with his left.

He’s been either brilliant or rather awkward. But his ability to play out from the back should always give him the edge with Burn prone to scary stuff as well.

Who would you pair BDB with as a CB in our team? Assume Thiaw due to the left foot right foot combination. Harsh on Botman in the short term but if Howe wants Burn's leadership qualities on the pitch that's the only way to achieve it without also shooting yourself in the foot.

Thiaw for sure, the athleticism makes up for a hole in Burns game.

Thing about Howe wanting him in the team though is that he's 33, he is coming to the end of his career like it or not so Botman still has to play ahead of him imo or he's never going to be the player he could be and we potentially miss out on the best version of him.

Yeah, Howe is going to have to start rotating our CB players. We're spoilt for choice currently, but that can change quickly and Burn and Schär are reaching the end of their run at this level. It's more in the immediate term of turning our PL season around. That doesn't happen with Burn at LB IMO and I don't think Howe will outright drop Burn.

Ive got no issues with Burn at CB. Eventually he will be eased out due to age but  he has barely put a foot wrong in that position. People are on his back again as he struggles at LB but easily forget he is a very good CB.

Agreed he's a very good CB and adds some exceptional depth to our squad. I'm not of the opinion that if everyone is fit and available he'll be in the starting XI. Thiaw & Botman hold those positions for me. Burn & Schar are excellent cover for them.

i've got no problem with him at CB at all. arguably deserves to start at LCB ahead of botman on this season's form.

but my god, he is not a left back. i really hope we can find a way to stop playing him there as it feels like he's been hung out to dry. i appreciate we've had no choice lately

He's also put several decent shifts in at LB tbh.

There's a mess of reasons why we're struggling. Joelinton being below par, Gordon being below par, Hall missing. All of those things expose Burn and compound upon each other. e.g. If Gordon was flying, we wouldn't notice how Burn struggles against pace because the two opposition players on that flank would be pressed back. If Joelinton was his wrecking ball best Gordon wouldn't need to do so much defensive work and Burn wouldn't be expected to contribute up the business end.
