Possibly. But it’s not like we’re desperate to cash in anymore is it?

I think we will give him one more year - another season where he isn’t the main man but has to work to earn his place will either make or break him. If he remains as inconsistent and frustrating then sell him next summer.

I don't get this attitude tbh. We're not going to get a limitless supply of cash from PIF and book balancing still has to occur in order to satisfy FFP. I've we're offered £40-50m for ANY of the players who were here before the January window, it shouldn't even be a discussion. Trade in and bring in better - quite possibly for less.

I would love to know why he bandages his legs

Probably has seen trainers doing it to racehorses and thinks it must be a good thing.

I don’t see much book-balancing in the next couple of windows tbh. Tight cunt Ashley left us about £200m before we need to start worrying about FFP. And even then it’s nowt a 10 year sponsorship with Aramco won’t fix.

But even if we weren’t flush,  I’d be very surprised if they sling ASM this summer.  Plenty of dead wood to get rid of before him

We're not desperate for cash no, but 50M in will actually be spent now instead of being pocketed with some creative accounting.

I agree though, at least another season. He's a rare talent with ability that can't be coached, unfortunately it seems that the previous three words also apply to him in general. Time for him to mature and up his work ethic and footballing intelligence. It will actually work in his favour also because at the moment he's predictable for defenders who know they can throw two or three at him without risk of him releasing the ball early.

If I had to choose, I'd say ASM will never change. And that's okay for our purposes for one more season, I feel.

It's rocks or diamonds and that's that. He had his place in the side when we were relegation fodder as people have said he can single-handedly win games and (importantly for a team which previously had no ambitions beyond staying in the league) he'd put bums in seats. He was something of a pantomime show to distract from the fact the club was going nowhere fast.

Now, though, in a team with ambitions going forward into next season and a game plan to win matches each weekend, I don't see him fitting in the plans beyond next season. He'll still be an automatic pick for the rest of this season because of the potential to win us a game. He's our most creative player in attack quite clearly and that won't change until season's end. Next season we're unlikely to bring in so many players that he falls down the pecking order too much, but I wouldn't be surprised to see his 'automatic' selection status revised down a little bit as we stop relying on him quite so much.

Then I could see him gone by the end of next season (unless of course he matures but I don't see it happening, personally, he's not a kid, he's 25 and fast approaching his 'prime years'). I agree with OTF, he doesn't seem open to being coached. It seems he honestly preferred Bruce's approach of doing fuck all all week then just expecting everyone to give him the ball on game day. That works for our previous goals of staying in the league (mostly), but that attitude won't cut it for much longer.

Unfortunately, due to Penfold and Cabbage, that may be easier said than done.

I put this in the ASM thread a week or two ago in response to the news articles about ASM being available at the right proce in the summer but yes if you look at the dross and the money they must be on - all guess-timates, we are going to struggle to get rid of a lot of them without actually paying up what is left on their contracts.

Ten players out and only an additional £60million, that's cunt Ashley level of (lack of) investment, especially when you consider those out are the likes of Gayle, who we will have to give away considering the money he is on, etc, etc.

Actually let's look at who those ten (plus) would be and roughly what they are costing us?

Dwight Gayle contracted until 06/2024 on £60k/wk?

Jamal Lewis contracted until 06/2025 on £30k/wk?

Isaac Hayden contracted until 06/2026 on £50k/wk?

Ciaran Clark contracted until 06/2023 on £40k/wk?

Jeff Hendrick contracted until 06/2024 on £40k/wk?

Matty Longstaff contracted until 06/2023 on £20k/wk?

Mark Gillespie contracted until 06/2023 on £20k/wk?

Karl Darlow contracted until 06/2025 on £40k/wk?

Miguel Almiron contracted until 06/2024 on £60k/wk?

Fed Fernandez contracted until 06/2023 on £50k/wk?

Matt Ritchie contracted until 06/2023 on £50k/wk?

Javier Manquillo contracted until 06/2024 on £40k/wk?

Paul Dummett out of contract at the end of this season and unfortunately looks like is now a permanent crock.

That's a lot of dross on potentially high wages we have to move before we can replace with better.

Hopefully Dummett and Fed will retire and there are backroom jobs for them if they are good enough but the rest, with the exception of Manquillo who I would keep but you just know he's on the list of ten.

You would also hope Krafth, Shelvey, Murphy and Wood are all listed for upgrade.

None of the Ashley dead wood players will be on huge wages.

They are not huge wages in football terms.

But you are correct I was wrong about Gayle, he's on 40k a week!!!!!

Clark is on 35k, no one is going to pay these wages for them, so why would they leave.

Lewis is on more that I thought.

Teams in the championship might, I just checked Fulham’s wages this season and they are comparable.
