at this point the ball is much closer to him than it is his left post. he doesn't move, at all.

once the ball has hits the bottom of the post and goes in it dawns on pope that he should've at least attempted a save so decides the only way to save face is to try recreate the steven taylor v arsenal incident and pretend to have been shot.

he might've fooled you, but he didnt me.

I'm more of the opinion that a prime Shay Given in the hands of Eddie Howe would be the greatest goalie of all time.

Best keeper we've ever had in my opinion. If we had him in the keegan years we'd of won the league.

That's given.

Edit - sorry I mean, the best keeper we've ever had is Given.

Pope's better at crosses although you could argue we defend better at corners as a defence anyway so usually helps Pope. (We'll forget about the arsenal game).

Don't think we've ever had a truly great keeper.  Pope doesn't make some of the exciting looking saves that Given made but I would say that he's the hardest to beat of any keeper I can remember us having (going back to Martin Thomas and Kevin Carr).  But then I'm not convinced I've ever seen us have a stronger defence than we have had since Pope has been here and that certainly helps him (goes both ways tbf mind).  Not sure Pope would look as good with Bramble and O'Brien in front of him.

I agree with all of this. Pope is part of the best defence I've seen us have. He'd look quite exposed with an average defence in front of him.

Maybe I'm being harsh on Jimmy Lawrence saying we've never had a great keeper mind.  432 games, 3 league titles and one FA Cup is pretty impressive.  But unless Noelie is around I don't suppose any of us can say whether he was actually that good.

He sweeps which would help out the likes of Bramble. And comes and takes crosses which takes pressure off our back four.

I mean we won the cup with pope coming out and claiming the ball alleviating any pressure liverpool had in the game. Made it so comfortable for us to win our first major trophy in years.

pope does the stuff he's paid to do - shot stopping and coming for crosses - as well as any keeper i've ever seen play for us.

he's also good at sweeping up behind the back four.

the less said about his playing out from the back, the better. but i hope he'll be better with botman and thiaw in front of him. just play an easy ball to one of them and let them start to build the attack

I think a lot of fans are a bit complacent about how good he is and are over critical of Pope. He’s been a massive part of the success we’ve had of late. Obviously he’s not great with his feet but overall he’s a top keeper. You’d be talking about serious money for an upgrade

Completely agree with this tbh. I have friends who genuinely thought Dubs was the better keeper, and while I do rate the guy I remember I was always panicking when he had to do anything compared to Pope.

Dubravka was nowhere near Pope’s level. I was expecting Pope to rock up at Man Utd, Arsenal or Spurs before we signed him.

He never did for Burnley, he was excellent.
