I intend to keep this updated this season.  I haven't included players away on loan.  I.e Haydn.  But can add that in.

Can a Mod sticky this?  I shall update squad numbers when they're released.  I have also simplified it via GK / DEF / MID / FWD.  So let's not have a Viana type discussion :)

or the next few seasons

Didn't Shelvey sign a new deal recently?

Wonder if Clark will want his contact (or a portion of it) paid up to move on. (which is completely fair play)

If we work on the basis of 2 players for every position (and a 3rd GK) then:

GK

Pope/Dubravka/Gillespie

RB

Trippier/Krafth

LB

Targett/Dummet

CB

Botman/Fede

Schar/Burn

CM

Bruno/Joelinton

Willock/Longstaff

???

Wingers

ASM/Almiron

Fraser/???

CF

Wilson/Wood

???

Which means the following players are going to struggle for game time/a squad number

Darlow

Clarke

Lascelles

Lewis

Manquillo
Murphy

Shelvey

Richie

M.Longstaff

Hendrick

Gayle

Thats a shitload of players to move on. Lascelles, Shelvey, Murphy might be lucky enough to sneak in if we don't sign 2 or 3 more players

I wouldn’t be relying on Dummett in any way. He’s had a terrible recent injury record.

Jacob Murphy given a deal until 2027  good luck shifting him next season

Mental decision. We also have Gayle a new deal despite never playing him. Wouldn't be surprised if Ashley knew the sale was coming and was just being a cunt

Although the cabbage talked him up and said he had tried to buy him on several occasions.  What, to put on the bench?

GK: Dub, Pope, Karlow

FB: Trips, Targett, Krafth*, Manquillo, Lewis

CB: Schar, Bots, Burn, Lascelles

CM: Bruno, Joe, Shelvey, Willock, SLongstaff

WG: ASM, Fraser, Miggy, Murphy, TBA

FW: Wilson, Wood, TBA

Krafth has been a different player under Howe (with improved players beside him also) and he also gives cover for CB. I didn't include Dummett because he's too susceptible to injury or Fede because through no visible fault of his own he's been out of the picture under Howe. Anderson is under 21 so can be included also, but expect him to be loaned of so that he's playing.

I'm hoping that Lewis can be reborn under Howe if given a chance. Murphy is a good mobile attacking option off the bench. He'd be quite saleable too, with plenty of interest from upper tier championship sides if we wanted to move him on.

Fede must have some chronic issue. I know he did really well against Norwich after Clark was sent off, but Norwich sat back even with extra man until we scored so he wasn’t tested much in terms of people running into the spaces behind him. Doesn’t seem like Howe to freeze him out for no good reason.

Wouldn’t be shocked to learn it was long COVID. Wasn’t he rumoured to be fucked with it?

Yeah, I heard that too.

Aye he is better IMO than Lascelles.

Agree, but Lascelles will be in the squad for sure so we have to hope against all odds that everyone else stays fit or that he suddenly develops an ability to mark and work cohesively in a defensive unit.
