Taken from .com about the Pre-season games v Burnley.

Quote

Saturday saw Newcastle prepare for Tuesday's friendly meeting with Benfica by facing Championship side Burnley behind closed doors in Portugal.

Eddie Howe and Clarets boss Vincent Kompany agreed to play two eleven-a-side matches simultaneously on adjacent pitches at the Cidade do Futebol near Lisbon.

The NUFC XI that played the first 45 minutes of game I swapped pitches with the XI from game II, while the two Burnley XIs stayed where they were throughout.

Howe remained pitchside at game I, allowing him to watch each of his XIs in action for 45 minutes or so.

NB: NUFC's reporting of the games refers to them as training sessions with four separate 45 minute practice matches as follows:

Won 4-1 Willock (2), Anderson, Almiron
Won 2-1 Wilson, Almiron
Won 1-0 Saint-Maximin
Won 2-0 Ritchie, Murphy

They confirm that 25 players were used, with no mention of the following:

Dubravka, Wood, Lewis, Schar, Fernandez, Watts, A.Murphy, Turner-Cooke.

We've worked on the basis that a 90 minute match took place o each pitch.

The villa I'm in has a dodgy box with premier sports on and they're showing it so will watch it after our meal out. (We're two hours ahead). :ok:

Let me know the score so I can put a bet on!
