The backroom specialists meticulously analyse the batsmen's (ie 1-6) technique, find any weaknesses then come up with a plan to exploit these - a perfect example of this was Adam Gilchrist in the Ashes. He needs width so as soon as he came in we had Freddie bowling at him from around the wicket, giving him little width and cutting of his big scoring shots. I get the feeling England think 'oh the tailenders can't bat, our bowlers are so good it's inevitable so I can't be arsed to come up with a plan. Pub?'
