Sandro Tonali

Not concerned about that so much. It’s more about what he wants. I’m sure we could improve his contract to make him equal to Bruno’s wage, for instance, but there’s no way we’re in a position to match what a cartel member would offer him. It’s simple as that really. Money talks.

Juve can’t afford him. I’d be more worried about City. Rodri went off injured again at the weekend. Longer it goes without a contract extension the more worrying it becomes for what the summer has in store. Again.

Ayer, the italian press was at this all summer as well, Tonali was linked with Inter, Juve and a return to Milan because he was "unhappy" and "desperately wanted to go back to italy" and it was all horseshit stemming from one interview where his agent said he might go back to italy at the end of his career.

We honestly do need to get this done. Next summer he'll have 2 years remaining which means if we dont extend we will be selling. The club could do with the good news of a key player committing their future in a post-Isak world.

Like I said. We need to sort his contract out before Christmas Tree floods East Boldon with a torrent of fluorescent piss.

100% this.  He's our best player and has been for nearly a year now.  It's at the point where it's a shock if he's not one of the best 3 players on the pitch (from either team) every week.  If we're wanting to progress we can't afford to lose him.

What works somewhat in our favour is others don't seem to recognise his value. I got into a debate with a bin-dipping moron who reckoned we were fucked because they'd taken our 'best player'.

When I pointed out Tonali is still with us he referred to him as a Temu-Henderson

Sounds like a typical glory hunter from nowhere near the place. If you've met one, you've met them all. Biggest sad sacks in their town/city/village nailed on.

Paul Scholes was on the overlap fan show and said he thinks Tonali is the best central midfielder in the league.

He is right.

I don't see (or want to believe) a scenario where we haven’t got the ability to auto extend his contract for a year given he was out for 1...

'best in the league' is subjective and whilst Scholes is well placed to judge, his opinion isn't definitive.

The question is "would I swap him?" and the answer is a firm 'no'. However I suspect Arsenal fans think like-minded about Odegaard, Liverpool fans about Gravenberch and Man City fans about (a fully fit) Rodri.

I am yet to see what the fuss is about Gravenberch. I heard someone call him the best Def Mid in the world the other day. Bitch, what? I barely remember he exists most of the time.

I don't think Odegaard would be the pick from Arsenal fans.  He's never fit for a kick off and I don't think he's been in good form for them for a while (other than when he came on against us).  I'd suspect Rice would be their pick and he'd certainly be up there for me.  Caicedo would also have to be up there on current form.

Granted re Scholes but it does highlight that Tonali is now being recognised more often from pundits.

I don't think he'd have ever evaded managers, DOFs and scouts. At the time everyone was surprised how we managed to acquire him.

He's the best centre mid I've ever seen at Newcastle, going back to mid 90s. Can do everything at a top class level.

Fans of other clubs would say the same about Tonali

I'd agree with that. They're both under the radar.

Whoever shouted out about Rice instead of Odegaard is absolutely right as well. And mentioning Caicedo too.
