Eddie’s Couldn’t Score in a Brothel Mags vs Guehi’s piss taking underachievers

The few bright spots for me yesterday were the defence - Burn and Schar both put in goal-saving tackles/blocks - and Tonali at DM. He has to be given a run in that position.

We must must MUST, decide on a settled side and stick with it. We’re so disjointed it’s mad, everyone is playing with someone different next to them every week. Am certain that’s why Tino is struggling going forward he’s got a different RW outlet and midfielder next to him every 5 bloody minutes.

And Gordon must play on the left, if that means the kid has to play because Wilson can’t do a long shift if Isak’s fucked, so be it.

Burn and Schar are doing alright at the minute, but I also think we shouldn't kid ourselves that they remotely compare to other central defensive pairings at the upper ends of the division. We're getting by at the minute but it's not gonna last.

Central defence is another key part of the squad where big investment is needed.

Apart from his OG I thought Guehi looked decent yesterday, especially going forward.

Starting to wonder about Isak like. He's a brilliant technical player and dead sharp in his head, but he doesn't present a physical challenge at all to PL centre halves, and he breaks down a lot too.

I really like him but I wonder if he wouldn't be better out wide or something. Not that we have a space for him out wide.

Is it worth getting 100+k for him and get Ferguson and a RW for the money?

Burn is an able deputy at CB but it will be great to see Botman back.

A nee right sided centre back would be welcome but the big issue isn’t the defence. We’re not shipping loads of goals. The biggest problem is the other end of the pitch.

Another option at LW but still no fucker good enough to play at RW.

I think Isak’s best position at CF. He’s elite but we don’t play to his strengths. Too often he’s isolated and feeding off scraps. His injury record, while not as bad as Wilson, is a concern

I think it's the system we're playing doesn't suit him. He's been asked to hold the ball up a lot rather than run onto it or run at players.

he would look better with a number 10 slipping balls through to him to run on to but we don’t play that way

nah. He is a goal machine with the service. We’ve been awful going forward this season. If he played for a top 4 team he’d be smashing them in.

his injury record is a worry for me though. Made of glass.

I'd want more than that for Isak.

This issue with selling Isak is he cost us £65mil, so even if we got £100mil for him, it's not enough profit to revamp the whole squad. And you then end up spending £70mil+ to buy Ferguson or similar to replace him, who probably won't get you half as many goals anyway. Same issue with Gordon.

If anyone goes it will be Bruno. He represents the biggest profit margin in the squad and we have Tonali to replace him.

We spent a similar fee on Gordon as we did with Bruno. I don't think selling any of the three has a material impact from a PSR point of view (maybe £10m of additional profit in the year of sale give or take).

The difference between the three is that Gordon and Bruno both extended their contracts which means we may be able to spread their remaining transfer fees a bit more (stand to be corrected on this) which means the impact on PSR from amortisation is reduced, however it would also stretch the net book value of their transfer fee hitting us in profit if we sell them.

As I mentioned though, overall I don't think selling one over the other would make a huge difference in our ability to overhaul the squad (or not). Rough guess you'd be looking at £70m profit recognised on Isak if we sold him for £100m and it wouldn't be a kick in the arse off with Gordon or Bruno.

Either way that does have a pretty decent impact on our PSR - but probably not enough to go mental.

It’s a ridiculous state of affairs that we have to engage in this kind of craic on a football message board. Not blaming you. I don’t understand any of it

It feels like you’re blaming me and I’ve made a note of it on my spreadsheet highlighting all the times I’ve had my feelings hurt.
