How to tell if there worth anything, editions etc

I've got the trilogy of the Lord of the rings (de-luxe edition), Second edition 1966.

These have fold out maps in red ink attached to them.

Very similar to these:

I've got a hardback set with the fold out maps I got 2nd hand in America. Got no idea if they're worth owt like.

Sound like they might be worth something to some geek or other. There's a specialist book shop on Grey Street in the town, isn't there (sure I've seen one)? You could take it in there and get them to have a look.

Failing that, go on the Antiques Roadshow and give us all a laugh. :clapping:

The best way to valuate your books is having a look at online antiquaries like abebooks.com.

Having just a quick glance the 2nd edition from 1966 is sold for around $ 2,000. If you have one of them it might in fact be worth a bit.

Too bad you don't have the first edition from 1955 which is sold for around $ 20,000 (the highest price is $ 45,000). :clapping:

There have to be quite a range of rich nerds around...

I've just seen a seven year old Harry Potter book for just under 300k, really can't get my head around that.

Looking at that and the condition their in i reckon i could be in the range of anywhere between £500 - £1500

I've got one of the all in one editions as well from 1978 but condition wise it's fucked.

Was gonna stick them on E-Bay but having second thoughts now, mightn't be the place for them.
