The green kit

Nicked from reddit....  why in an age of obsessive science, fine margins and endless analysis would we deliberately hamper ourselves in this way?  This is like Brexit all over again.  Cunts.

University of Liverpool Study (2013, published in PLOS ONE): Researchers analyzed Premier League matches and found that kits with high contrast (e.g., bright red or white against green pitches) improved visibility for both referees and players. Red shirts were rated as more visible from afar (up to 50m). Conversely, green kits were the least visible, blending with the pitch and increasing misjudgments by up to 20% in low-light conditions. The study used eye-tracking simulations to measure detection times.

German Football Association (DFB) Research (2017): In collaboration with sports scientists, they tested Bundesliga kits under stadium lighting. Results showed red and yellow kits had the shortest "detection latency" (0.2-0.3 seconds faster than green), making players easier to spot during fast breaks. Green was deemed "worst" for away teams on grass pitches, correlating with a 5-7% higher foul call rate against them.

Rowe et al. (2009, Journal of Sports Sciences): Analyzing 1,500+ English league games, they found teams in red home kits won 5-10% more often, partly due to better visibility aiding coordinated play. Dark green or black away kits showed the opposite, with losses 8% higher, attributed to poorer on-pitch tracking.

A 2021 review in Sports Medicine synthesized 15+ studies, concluding red enhances visibility by 15-25% over green in outdoor settings, but effects vary by weather (e.g., rain dulls reds).

We should've been wearing b&w no matter what the away kit was but I loathe us wearing all these variations of green and white kits, even the shade of green looks putrid.

Personally I like the kit visually but the results when we've been wearing it haven't been good.

Agree with HMHM, we should be wearing B&W stripes unless there is a clash. Ultimately it's down to Man Utd that we're forced to wear 'alternate' kits even when there's not a clash. All a result of a kit they released and never wore.

You'd think the club will have access to all of this information and hopefully force it so we never have to wear that shite green kit again.

The sky thumbnail has Bruno wearing green and Henderson wearing their home shirt. Given they normally put on what the teams are supposed to be wearing I'm wondering if we were supposed to be wearing green but it's been switched to blue in the last few days because of popular demand/luck/superstition/scientific analysis etc?

The all blue version is better but orange or not it's still better than the green.

Thirty eight quid, veritable bargain, for let's face it would be a pair of long pants for you.
