Kanoute part exchange

TOTTENHAM supremo Daniel Levy is offering Fredi Kanoute to Newcastle in a swap bid for unhappy England ace Jermaine Jenas.

Levy is struggling to raise the £10million asking price for midfield starlet Jenas - despite bidding to offload some of his first-team squad.

But now Levy has set up a plan to send striker Kanoute to the Toon with £6m cash to get Jenas to go to Spurs.

After the Robbie Keane-plus-cash proposal - first revealed by The SP in May, when the Jenas pursuit began - Kanoute has a chance of being the ideal makeweight as Souness wants TWO strikers now and likes the Mali international.

If chairman Freddy Shepherd can be persuaded to take Kanoute plus the right amount of money, Jenas will be free to go so long as he puts in a transfer request.

Souness is still trying for Fenerbahce's Nicolas Anelka and Middlesbrough's Mark Viduka, but he would settle for Kanoute if the spare cash is used to go for a strike partner as he tries to boost his attack.

But Souey has been told to find £5m before Fulham will sell Portuguese star Luis Boa Morte - and may offer Senegalese midfielder Amdy Faye in part-exchange.

The Toon went in again for Boa Morte after hearing French schemer Steed Malbranque had turned down a move to Manchester City on Friday. They are hoping the Craven Cottage club still needed the cash.

However, the price is still a lot higher than Newcastle have offered, although the Faye option is being put forward. Faye only joined Souness's side from Portsmouth in January, but he could be sacrificed if it means a deal for the unsettled goalscoring wideman Boa Morte can be pushed through.

I wouldn't want bloody Kanoute if they threw him in for free never mind as part of the deal. He's another Babayaro in the making. :o
