You can wind the fuck out of a Manc (and a Scouser for that matter) by pointing out they're from the West of England, not the North. They argue until such time you point out it takes no longer to get from Manchester to London as it does from Manchester to Newcastle and that there's a further hour or so after each location to the national border.

Aye, Jarrow and Monkwearmouth were the principle settlements south of the Tyne, Durham obviously dominated the Wear  valley….Sunderland was basically a few fisherman’s huts on Roker beach until about 1800…
