Cry me a tear, wipe it away

does it make you feel better about that terrible day.

Cry me a tear, wipe it away again

the good days we had, will it ever be the same.

Cry me a tear, maybe you don?t understand

what went on that day, in that horrible stand.

Cry me a tear, and wipe it away

how come that tear keeps appearing, each and every day.

Cry me a tear, for the hurt and the cost

for the Kop is still silent, for its people it lost.

Cry me a tear, for we are still hear

wipe it away, but you won?t stop the tear.

Cry me a tear, for the lads and the lasses

we cross many borders and are loved by the masses.

Cry me a tear, for the loud and the proud

we won?t ever walk alone, even lost in a crowd.

Cry me a tear, I think not

the 96 victims the media conveniently forgot.

Cry me a tear, for the fans that survived

think of the grief and tears that they hide

Cry me a tear, for the families that grieve

with your help and mine lets hope they receive.

Cry me a tear, for the faith and love that they all had

with hope in their hearts, it?s terribly sad.

Cry me a tear, for the future is bright

its time for the red phoenix to flex its red might.

Cry me a tear, for the true people you are

whether local or away from a far.

Cry me a tear, let it run down your face

remember dignity, pride and grace.

Cry me a tear, for the pride that we bear

its our life and a hope that we share.

Cry me a tear, for the sick in their hands

they mock us and skit us, one day they will understand.

Cry me a tear, for the weak and the infirm

for they have been true reds history can confirm.

Cry me a tear, for the loved ones we?ve lost

whatever the pain or values it cost.

Cry me a tear, for our ancestors who walked alone a head

they set standards high, for the men dressed in red.

Cry me a tear, don?t ever forget

lift your head up proud, lest never forget.

Cry me a tear, for the youths of today

lets hope they never forget that horrible day.

Cry me a tear, King Kenny was boss

he felt it all and cried at the loss.

Cry me a tear, for the team that we had

its glory is rich but terribly sad.

Cry me a tear, with hope in your heart

think of loved ones drastically pulled apart.

Cry me a tear, for all the true reds

lets hope you can settle in your comfortable beds.

Cry me a tear, for we don?t know your name

we may walk right past you each and every game.

Cry me a tear, as long as I last

with god?s will and strength I will never forget our past.

Cry me a tear, for those left behind

who live each day with thoughts in their mind.

Cry me a tear, cry for the 96 that died

cry me a tear, for the press that lied

Cry me a tear, with hope in our heart

think of the loved ones drastically drawn apart.

Cry me a tear, some say it?s just a football team

its bigger than that, its more than a dream.

Cry me a tear, wipe them all away

we love and feel for them everyday.

Cry me a tear, Bill,Bob and Joe welcome you with open arms

The 96 are now immortal, never to be forgotten, my heart still bleeds and feels for you and those you left behind.

One day, we will all meet up in heaven, my thoughts are with you.

Cry me a tear, because I haven?t stopped crying yet.

Tonight is also the anniversary of the night the Titanic went down.

Just thought I'd mention that.  :(

Does that mean we're going to get a post that is two hundred feet long listing everyone who died? :):o

Fancy writing a little dirge while you're on, Rob; I'm sure you either survived it or built it. :(

I remember that day well.

We were away to Arsenal (lost 1-0).

My aunt and uncle who are Tranmere fans were staying with us that weekend as Tranmere were away to Hartlepool. My Mam and Me got the train down to Hartlepool to meet up with them and watch the match.

My Uncle went to get a drink at Half time and came back saying something had happened at Hillsborough, but didn't really know what or how serious.

We only really knew through listening to the Sports programmes (on Radio 2 in those days) in my Uncle's car on the way back home, and just from some of the things they were saying, it was quite obviously horrific.

My Aunt and Uncle were quite concerned because coming from the Wirral (just the other side of the Mersey from Liverpool) there are a lot of Liverpool fans from there, and they had some friends, acquaintances and workmates who were Liverpool fans and at the game.

My Uncle was on about all the Liverpool fans they saw on the way up.

I remember seeing the report on the news that night and it was terrible.

I remember going to Hillsborough when we played Sheff Wed towards the end of the 93/94 season (1-0, Andy Cole's winner in extra time, wearing the green third kit) and I hadn't thought about it at all until we were at the stadium, at the Leppings Lane End. I was sitting in the upper tier looking down, and it felt eerie. I couldn't help but think of those pictures of people in the upper tier pulling people from the terraces below up into the stand. It was an uncomfortable feeling.

Scousers looking for sympathy again?

Get back to your shit throwing.

121681[/snapback]

Don't think there's any need for that tbh

Don't be such a fucking twat! 96 'football fans' died that day, it could have happened to any club and almost did to NUFC only 2 years previous...

Some of us were at White Hart Lane that day and will never forget it so yeah, I have sympathy for the people who survived and the families who lost people at Hillsborough.

Sorry can't hear you, I'm having a minutes silence for Ken Bigley or whoever the hell it is this week.

They love drowning in their own self pity ffs. Juventus fans had the right idea at their CL quarter final last season.

Have I offended you?  Shall I have a minutes silence?

If you could have a 950 minutes silence that would be champion.

all I know abou the Titanic is that the White Star Company paid the wages of the surviving crew up to the moment she sank - not a penny for the time in the water being rescued and not a $ to help them get home

I agree with Sima, although I might not have put it in quite the same words.

Craig - surely you can recognise the difference between remembering the shock you felt that day, having huge sympathy with the families and wallowing in misery?

I think Sima is generalising though which is wrong. I also think he is covert controversy to get a rise out of people.

Bradford do remember it each year, I have a mate who's a Bradford fan and they make a 'thing' of it but it doesn't get the same level of publicity due to the size of the club.

If it was coming out all year round, then yeah, I'd agree that it was OTT. It only happens around 15/04 though in the same respect that at 3.05pm on 06/02, Manchester United remembers what happened at Munich.

Is this why we had arm bands on yesterday? Do we do that for Munich or Bradford?

Doesn't bug me particularly, the randomly selected minutes silences are worse, devalues the important ones.

Have Bradford had games moved because of the fire? Do other teams have to respect it along with them. No, theirs is small and dignified.

Certainly didn't mean to generalise, but if that is how it's came across I apologise. It's not the fact that it happens that really gets on my nerves, it's the way it's rubbed in our faces year, after year, after year. Yes, it's a tragedy that 96 people died, but having clubs all over the country wear a special armband on the 17th anniversary is completely pointless, it's not as if it's a milestone or anything. Munich is only remembered in any great scale on big milestones. Yes they have small services every year, but nothing on this scale.

Reminds me of the cringeworthy grieving of old grannies and the likes when Diana died, etc. Like it gives them some kind of smug self-satisfaction that they are doing their part and also attracting sympathy.

Yes, that was the reasons for the arm bands and ftr I think it's ott. I think outside Liverpool the Hillsborough tragedy should only be actively remembered every "significant" anniversary, and then only at FA cup games. So yes, there is a tendency for Liverpudlians to dwell too much on past tragedies, and that poem was, erm, well....

However, I think comparisons with the other tragedies mentioned, especially Munich, are nonsense. They were entirely different matters. The most similar tragedy, Heysel, is remembered in mych the same way. Bradford is also remembered. But the shear scale of Hillsborough, the human incompetence that led to it, the disgusting slurs by the national press afterwards, and also imo the revolting covering cover up by the police afterwards, make it a bit different. Also it isn't that long ago.

There is also the fact that it played out right in front of eyes during a match many of us would have been watching that make it feel worse. I have seen still photographs where you can clearly recognise people (therefore seen by relatives and friends) in agony during the last moments of their lives. I'm talking about kids here, as well as adults. Put simply, it is quite a horrible spectacle which we never saw at Ibrox for instance.

And as Craig points out, many football fans who suffered crushes in matches before this preventable tragedy are acutely aware it could have happened to them.

Alos, and I think this is an important point, don't forget Hillsborough fundamentally changed the game in the UK and further afield, and paved the way for the Sky generation, for better or for worse (better I think). So from a historical perspective, it cannot be underestimated.

Whatever people's feelings are on the event and the continuing memorials, it should be remembered that 96 football fans died that day, and it could have happened to anyone. They should be respected, which is why Sima is such a twat.
