Newcastle Appeal Carr Red Card

NEWCASTLE United have confirmed they will appeal against Stephen Carr's red card in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Chelsea at St. James' Park.

The Republic of Ireland international was dismissed by referee Mike Riley for violent conduct 15 minutes from time following a challenge on Lassana Diarra.

The Magpies will appeal to the Football Association on the grounds of wrongful dismissal. If the appeal fails, however, Carr will serve a four-game ban at the start of next season.

That is because it was his second sending off in the 2005/06 campaign after he picked up a retrospective red card in the 3-2 win against Sunderland back in October. Carr was booked against the Black Cats but he also picked up a second yellow after the game when Newcastle appealed against Scott Parker's booking on the grounds of mistaken identity, and it was transferred to Carr's record.

looking at the brief highlights on match of the day

did Carr even touch him?

also do chelsea think it's professional to surround the ref trying to get players sent off

It won't get overturned. He definitely did something even though it wasn't much. The only way you'll get something overturned is if the referee got something completely wrong. The fact that he even gestured towards stamping/kicking/whatever will be enough for the FA not to rescind it.

Wasn't a red card offence tbh. It got the yellow it deserved.

Oh wait, he didn't send him off because it wasn't a red card, because he wasn;'t last man. But don't let the facts get in the way of another amazing post.

And if you don't think he was biassed explain to us how Gallas' assault on Zog wasn't even a yellow, how 3 times he allowed Chelsea players to surround him and booked none of them, how 3 times he stood and told their wall where to stand and then allowed them to ignore him, etc. etc.

The wall not moving back isn't exclusive to Chelsea tbh. At least half of the teams in the league do it ffs.

Christ we're turning into scousers the amount of pity we have.

Its funny but i don't recall saying the wall thing was exclusive to Chelsea, in fact i didn't criticise them at all for it because they are quite rightly trying to play on the edge of the rules.

Its Riley i'm having a go at for being shite at his job and being a ref who probably above all others is up the arse of the top 4 teams as shown by letting them get away with what they liked, and making decsions after they'd surrounded him (for which he never once booked a single player)

So if a referee is biased, every yellow card offence will become a red one. Didn't realise that like.

Having said that, I don't think he was biased, just incompetent.

Having seen it again, the Carr sending off shouldn't even have been a yellow. Total joke but I doubt it will be rescinded as they'll probably say there was intent etc. We still won though, so who cares?

Will he miss the first few games of next season though?

Four games as he got a retrospective red card when Scott Parker got one in a case of mistaken identity against the mackems at home. So he's been sent off twice.

It's annoying that the FA will bend over backwards to ban players, but not to rescind red cards.
