Former world boxing champion Naseem Hamed has been jailed for 15 months for causing a crash that left another man seriously injured.

The 31-year-old ex-featherweight champ was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court following a crash involving his £300,000 sports car.

Hamed, of Wyvern Gardens, Dore, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.

He was also banned from driving for four years.

The case follows a crash on Ringinglow Road, on the outskirts of Sheffield in May last year.

It involved Hamed's Mercedes McClaren sports car and two other vehicles.

Devout Muslim Hamed had a rapid rise as a boxer in the 1990s.

He was born in Sheffield to Yemeni parents and soon made a name for himself with his confident attitude as much as his devastating early performances.

He won the world title in 1995 and was awarded an MBE in 1999.

Hamed remained unbeaten until 2001 when he lost to Mexico's Marco Antonio Barrera.

Chance to lose some of that weight. Wouldn't be suprised if he came out fit as fuck and pushed for a comeback then. Unless he decides to sit on his fat arse and read the Koran all day, every day.
