Taylor scuppers swap deal

Newcastle have proposed a swap deal to Portsmouth which would see Matt Taylor move to Tyneside in exchange for Amdy Faye.

But Taylor himself has scuppered United's hopes by insisting he wants to stay at Fratton Park.

United are in need of a quality left-sided defender, while Portsmouth are keen to re-sign midfielder Faye just 17 months after selling him.

But Taylor's starring role in Pompey's Premiership survival battle under Harry Redknapp has convinced him his future lies on the South coast.

Redknapp is still keen on Faye, however, and a straight cash deal for the Senegalese may be agreed within the next few weeks.

Would have been a good swap. To be fair though, there's lost of things I'd swap Faye for.
