Don't agree with the death penalty. Just a personal view of mine.

I never used to, can't really think why now...

EDIT: By the way I don't see it as punishment, not some of this sick, salacious, sadistic shit that goes on in the Middle East or the US; just a way to dispose of something that really is beyond redemption.

A peculiar attitude, since iirc you were more or less against Wearside Jack getting even a custodial sentence?

Personally I think we/society are no better than the killers if we then kill them. I can understand and respect the opposing view though.

Those 3 lads that were caught on the CCTV that I watched last night - beating the shit out of two lads and stabbing them both, killing one?  I would have no problem at all with the 3 of them getting the death penalty.  There's no question about guilt, they were caught on camera.  Just do away with them.  Instead they'll be out within 5 or 6 years.

141774

I doubt they'll be out in that period.

So are you only advocating the death penalty when people are caught on film, out of interest? There's absolutely no way there could be a case of mistaken identity, or there is some mitigating circumastance you don't know about (e.g. it wasn't random)?

If you are prepared to kill people, do you think the burden of evidence should be even stronger? Do you think this would lead to an increased risk of acquittal? Do you accept that before people are killed they need to have a lot of rights to appeal and this would actually be very expensive?

141779

All I'm saying, you argumentative twat :( , is that I watched footage last night of two lads who weren't even looking at their attackers as they approached get badly beaten and one got murdered. There were no mitigating circumstances - what could they possibly be anyway?

Seriously, watch the footage - the matter of fact way that he stabs this kid in the chest and just walks off to stab his other mate has to be seen to be believed. If you've got footage like that of someone, and there can be no doubt as to guilt, then do away with them. What right to appeal should he be entitled to?

I'm nothing if not peculiar.

Wearside Jack is a poor demented fool, we disagree about wasting police time in that investigation, which is a discussion we shouldn't get into on a Friday afternoon, I have to order HDTV World Cup and go and sit in the sun.

You've made some bloody good points above, though, in your response to Gemmill. Would be an interesting discussion to have.
