Smogs and Southgate

See boro are going to ask for permission to employ Southgate even though he doesn't have the uefa coaching badge.

Hope they get it, because firstly i don't see him doing anything earth shattering there, and secondly it will really piss of the jobsworth nobodies at the LMA all over again, and that is always a good thing.

Can't see them getting permission, Roeder's circumstances were totally different, I'd be really suprised if this gets the go-ahead

I see Barnwell is happy to make an idiot of himself again:

Middlesbrough have already been refused permission to appoint Gareth Southgate as their new boss, according to the League Managers' Association.

Boro chairman Steve Gibson wants club captain Southgate, 35, to replace Steve McClaren who will take over from Sven-Goran Eriksson as England manager after the World Cup. However, the former England international is thought to be at least two years away from obtaining the Pro Licence stipulated by the Premier League. And LMA chief executive John Barnwell dismissed Gibson's chances of getting what he wants.

Barnwell said: "They can't do it - it's as simple as that. My understanding is that Middlesbrough have had lengthy discussions with the Premier League over the weekend and they have been flatly refused."

He added: "Gareth Southgate may be working towards becoming a coach but at this stage he hasn't got the necessary qualifications to do the job."

Barnwell admits Boro could use a loophole by appointing assistant manager Steve Round - who does have a Pro Licence - to work with Southgate but he would not approve of such a move.

"If they wanted to appoint a senior figure who did have the qualifications and who would come in and show Gareth the ropes, then that would be a different matter," Barnwell added.

"But Steve Round and Steve Harrison are not members of the LMA so they would not get our backing - even though they do have the right badges."

However, Gibson is determined the rules will not stop him from appointing Southgate and could cite the exception made for Glenn Roeder when he was given the Newcastle job.

The Boro chairman told the Times: "John Barnwell doesn't know what it's like to take a club from liquidation to the UEFA Cup final. I will take the decisions that are right for Middlesbrough.

"The reason we have fast-tracked Gareth is because we have let our previous manager become the new England head coach. Surely we shouldn't be denied for bureaucratic reasons, when any schoolteacher could go and get those qualifications?"

You'd think he'd have learnt from the Roeder episode that not only does he have no say in how the matter is resolved, but no one cares whether they receive the backing of him or his association.

Barnwell should just save everyone the time and effort of reading what he comes out with by making a one off statement of:

"Please somebody pretend i'm important and not some jumped up little arsehole who nobody likes or listens to and has actually got no power whatsoever of any consequence!"

He could then use this repeatedly as its the entire gist of everything he ever says.

Confirmed as their new boss then. Their excuse for him not having the qualifications, namely "We have fast-tracked Gareth because we let our previous manager, Steve McClaren, become the new England coach." is almost as bad as our "Oh go on. Please. He had a brain tumour you know?!".

Too right, what does it matter if they are members of the LMA let alone the qualification.

I think the time has come for the country to accept and bring in the ruling that ALL managerial appointments have to fulfill only one criteria: That John Barnwell says they're ok

Anytime a club wishes to appoint a manager or coach they have to take their case before the great and all important John Barnwell and beg, nay beseech his holiness for the permission to employ their choice as manager.

And after due consideration the great man himself will either grant their petition or cast them unto hell for abominations against the might of the LMA

Or alternatively people could tell the over inflated cunt to shut up and realise he has all the power and importance of a heap of shit and nobody cares what he thinks.

This could cause us a right pain in the arse, because Boro are already arguing that if Roeder is allowed to become our manager then Southgate should be allowed to become Boro boss. So we're getting dragged back into this mess, which should see Fat Fred making more threatening comments towards the LMA.
