I've seen mentioned in the Mag and TF a few times about Oswald Mosley bringing his Blackshirts to the Bigg Market in the 1930s to try and incite a race riot, only for a huge bunch of Geordies to turn up and beat the shit out of them.

 

Never been able to find a net reference though, so don't know how true it is.

That definitely happened in South Shields, though not sure if the man himself was there but my Dad told me of "normal" blokes getting together to run fascists out of town when they tried to march in blackshirts.
