Portugal v Holland

Most entertaining game yet tbh.

Did anyone see Figo "headbutt" (ie touch foreheads) that player, who then just put his hand on his forehead and lied down on the floor? Hilarious!

Also the last red card, the ref looked at his yellow card for about 20 seconds to check which players he'd booked because he couldn't keep track. :(

The image of Deco and Van Brockenhurst sitting together and wondering what the hell was going is one of the most iconic images of the world cup. If anyone can find it and post it here I'd be grateful.

Yep, he was certainly consistent, if he eased off at the end people would have complained as well.

Apparently Blatter said on Portugese TV the ref 'deserves a yellow card'. How does this man earn 100K+ a year again?

Blatter 100k+??? The twat probably earns 100m+ each year. He is the biggest tosser walking around, always having a go at other for things who he is actually to blame for. This time it's the referees, another time it's commercialisation.

Are you coming round to my way of thinking about Fifa and uefa

Blatter is a disgrace in everything he does.

And agree with Spongebob, commentators always come out with that killing the game as a spectacle stuff, or "nobody wants to see it turn nasty like this" etc. and everyone knows we all do want to see games like this every now and then, its cracking entertainment!

Couldn't agree more, I was desperate for the Dutch to score so we could have extra time

My mate was so disgusted at the Portuguese that he rang me striaght after the game to rant for 20 minutes about it, claiming his Mrs 'just doesn't understand man.'

I really, really, want to do those cheating Portuguese bastids on Saturday. Please raise your game against these cheating twats, it would be one of the sweetest England victories ever.

I thought v. Bronckhorst was the unluckiest sending off tbh.  I'm glad Deco got sent off because he's a diving turd and I'd rather not see him against England.

I can't help liking him because he looks so much like my brother.

No further action to be taken against Figo since he got booked.

Van Bommel and Figo went head to head on Sunday

Luis Figo can play in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final against England after Fifa ruled out further action for a headbutt on Holland's Mark van Bommel.

The Portuguese skipper was booked and because referee Valentin Ivanov took action, Fifa will not intervene.

Fifa communications director Markus Siegler said: "He was sanctioned immediately by the referee at the time.

"The referee's report is being analysed but it is very unlikely anything will happen as he has been sanctioned."

It had been suggested Fifa could upgrade the yellow card to a red, potentially leading to a one-match ban that would have ruled him out of the game in Gelsenkirchen.

Van Bommel said: "Figo headbutted me and that is not a yellow card. I blame the referee, it was a clear red card."

But Siegler said: "It is only where there is a clear disciplinary issue, which has not been acted upon by the referee, that the disciplinary committee can look at it."

Portugal will be without influential midfielders Deco and Costinha, who were two of four players sent off in a stormy 1-0 win over Holland in Stuttgart.

Replays appeared to show Figo made some contact with Van Bommel and had he been dismissed, Portugal would have been reduced to nine men against a full-strength Dutch team at the time.

Figo was later involved in more controversy when his tangle with Khalid Boulahrouz led to the Holland defender being dismissed for a second yellow card.

However, Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari defended Figo.

He said: "Jesus said we should turn the other cheek, unfortunately, Figo is not Jesus Christ."

I don't think it was worthy of a red card (although it would be nice for Figo to miss the game) but the rule that FIFA can't intervene if the ref sees it is utter bollocks.
