Hamann rejects switch to Bolton

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that they will not be signing former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann.

Liverpool confirmed on their website on Tuesday that Hamann, 32, left the club to sign for Sam Allardyce's side.

But in a statement on their website, Bolton said: "Although Didi Hamann signed a contract with the club, he has since had a change of heart."

Manchester City have been linked with the player, and Bolton added: "He will sign for another club within 24 hours."

The German midfielder's exit from Anfield came after he slipped down the pecking order because of competition from Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Momo Sissoko.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez told the German he could leave.

Hamann won eight medals during his seven-year stint at Anfield.

He made 283 appearances for Liverpool scoring 11 goals. And in 2002, Hamann became the first Liverpool player since Roger Hunt in 1966 to play in a World Cup Final

:hunter: Thats pretty wierd, Wonder if bolton would be able to claim so cash for him.

Big, huge, gigantic rumour on the SMB that Allardyce is leaving Bolton to go manage the mackems. You might scoff, but this one seems to have legs...

From whoring himself for the England job to taking over at the mackems. Now that would be a bit of a come down.

He could have had the job here as well. What a plank.

I can see it happening, he's come to the point where he must be thinking that he has taken Bolton as far as he can, and Sunderland might be a challenge he can't turn down.

If he turns down a club like us then goes to manage a club like them then it says a lot about his ambition.
