Bayern Munich are preparing to offload one of their strikers should Manchester United agree to their latest offer for wantaway forward Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Dutchman has been the subject of speculation all summer since Sir Alex Ferguson accepted the marksman's third transfer request, at the end of last season.

Bayern Munich have made no secret of their desire to sign the 30-year-old and president Franz Beckenbauer believes either Roy Makaay or Claudio Pizarro will make way for his arrival.

"We are still €5 million (£3.4 million) away from Manchester United's valuation, but the chances are still high," Beckenbauer revealed.

"But if it does work out, I could imagine us giving away Roy Makaay or Claudio Pizarro."

United are yet to answer the offer, but have called the predator back to pre-season training while they hold out for £15 million.

Munich have already spent €10.5 million (£7.15 million) this summer on Germany's World Cup star Lukas Podolski from Cologne.

Hamburg could be the beneficiaries of the transfer activity, with Der Kaiser predicting a striker to follow Paolo Guerrero to the AOL Arena.

"We could reach another deal," Beckenbauer added.

The Bundesliga outfit are still believed to be in the market for a striker after searching fruitlessly so far this summer.

They were rebuffed by Aston Villa for Milan Baros and Valencia for Patrick Kluivert and some Bayern bargains may yet prove their best option.
