Cheers lads, some top notch posts there, good to read about those days from someone who wasn't even born back then so top stuff.

It would appear the history books have painted Lee in a worse picture than they should do then which is a shame because that's where people like me who didn't experience those days, get a feel for those days from.

Interesting about Supermac's injury, didn't he retire not long after leaving Newcastle?

In reply to the earlier comment about Lee's achievement of finishing 5th, it was Dinnis who finished 5th and got us into Europe on the last game of the season. Before anyone says that it was Lee's team, it could be argued that part of it was Joe Harvey's team.

Partly true. Lee left in February, on course for that european spot. Dinnis carried on until the end of the season, keeping the momentum going, that is all.

Thing is, the point you make about Lee taking over Joe Harveys players is more relevant than you thought. He did better than Joe Harvey with the same players ! , in fact much better, after he sold Macdonald. You can't argue with results. It was as big a rise up the league as last seasons fall.

Jackie is right about Dinnis though, when he later stood on his own two feet he was just the same as Ardiles. However, the real disaster came when we appointed McGarry to clear up the "lack of discipline". If HTT wants to draw a comparison between this era and that one, this is the one he should keep an eye on.
