Button takes first Grand Prix win

Britain's Jenson Button earned the first Formula One victory of his career as he mastered changeable conditions to win the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Button drove superbly to slash Fernando Alonso's lead, and took control when the Spaniard retired on lap 52.

Michael Schumacher had been running in second place, but with three laps to go the German was forced to pull out as well after knocking into Nick Heidfeld.

McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa finished in second, with Nick Heidfield third.

A delighted Button, racing in his 113th Grand Prix, jumped out of the car to hug the rest of the Renault crew before climbing onto the podium as he became the first British Grand Prix winner since David Coulthard three years ago.

The victory was also Honda's first win as a constructor since 1967.

The drivers had to contend with tricky weather conditions at the Hungaroring, with heavy rain followed by bright sunshine and a drying track, making the timing of tyre changes crucial.

Renault got their changes right, to beat De la Rosa to the chequered flag by 30.8 seconds.

"What a day - it's been amazing," said Button.

"Coming through from 14th to win the race. I couldn't have done it a better way.

"But I have to thank everyone in the team - the strategy was spot on.

Absolutely cracking race it was too - totally deserved.

Shame that Alonso and Schumacher retired because he was beating both of them fair and square on the track and you know damned well that the doubters will say that he only won because they dropped out....

Raikkonen is a different matter though, I think he'd have won it had he not run into the back of Liuzzi.

Hopefully the floodgates will now open and give the Brits something to cheer about.

You're spot on unfortunately - the press are gonna cream themselves over this and sadly, his equipment is not quite up to regular race wins.....yet!

Take nothing away from him as a driver though - he's one of the best there is, just isn't immediately obvious to a lot.

James Allen creaming himself at the chequered flag was excruciating enough. Does the man have no shame?

It would be better to completely disconnect drivers and teams

have 9 teams and 18 drivers - every driver gets to drive twice in a season for each car team picked (a la World Cup) by some super model on TV

we'd soon see if Michael Schumacker is as good as he thinks he is

Giving the drivers drugs would make it more interesting.

He'd normally just refer to him as the vile hun. Keeping it PC in public.
