A- split pot because they've identical hands two pair 2's and four's plus ace kicker

B- Billy wins cos he's got pair of four's with ace, eight, seven to Tony's pair of fours with ace eight six

C- Billy wins; he has the best hand, pair of fours, ace high, 9 then 7

tony has pair of fours, ace high, then 9 then 6

tony has pair of fours, ace high, then 9 then 6

see that's the one, I was unsure about...

case3eu4.jpg

why isn't it:

Billy: Pair of fours, Ace, Eight, Nine

Tony: Pair of fours, Ace, Eight, Nine

Therefore they split it...

seeing as those are the 5 best available cards...

On a related note they have just started the final table at the WSOP main event(World Series of Poker) in Vegas. 10000 entrants 10 thousand dollar entry. The top twelve all win over a million, the winner takes home 12 million

interesting ... i've been playing for about a month, think I fancy my chances, it's all about luck and getting the right cards anyway. :D

Ladbrokes cash games all the way. Sit and goes you can play for an hour and not make a profit, in a cash game, you can play 1 hand, and more than double your money.

:D I have no idea what that means.

no, I don't play for money on the net yet. Still a novice, I'm starting to organise a few 20€ nights with a few mates .... we're crazy we are :D

not a split pot

in a case like this it's the other card in the hand that dictates the winner.

in this case the 7 beats the 6, the 8 doesn't come into it.

I know that the highest hand available to them is the pair, the ace the nine and the eight but in this case you use the cards in the hand, not the spread.

No you are wrong. You make the best 5 card hand from your two hole cards and the 5 community cards.

I remember being told the same as Fish (which is why I started this thread), and I think he might be right... Just can't really figure out why.

JEEZ ok here you go

Texas Hold'em General Rules

In hold’em, players receive two downcards as their personal hand (holecards), after which there is a round of betting. Three boardcards are turned simultaneously (called the “flop”) and another round of betting occurs. The next two boardcards are turned one at a time, with a round of betting after each card. The boardcards are community cards, and a player may use any five-card combination from among the board and personal cards. A player may even use all of the boardcards and no personal cards to form a hand (play the board). A dealer button is used. The usual structure is to use two blinds, but it is possible to play the game with one blind, multiple blinds, an ante, or combination of blinds plus an ante.

Object: The best possible five card poker hand, using any combination of hole cards and community cards, wins the pot.

Betting Rounds

1.The dealer deals each player their own two cards face-down (pocket cards)

2.1st betting round

3.The dealer burns a card then turns over three community cards face-up

(the flop)

4.2nd betting round

5.The dealer burns another card then turns over 1 more community card (the turn,4th street)

6.3rd betting round

7.The dealer burns another card then turns over 1 final community card (the river,5th street )

8.Last betting round

9.Showdown (Every remaining player shows hand with bettor showing first)

All remaining players must use one of the following choices at the showdown:

1. Two pocket cards & three boardcards

2. One pocket card & four boardcards

3. No pocket cards & five boardcards (called playing the board)
