Niall Quinn announced that he would be standing down as Sunderland manager following the 2-0 Carling Cup reverse at the hands of lowly Bury.

It was Quinn's fifth defeat in as many games as Black Cats boss although it would seem that his resignation was not necessarily influenced by Tuesday night's result.

The Irishman revealed that the club have a "world class" manager lined up, who should be in place by the weekend.

The 39-year-old will now focus on his duties as club chairman with Sunderland routed to the bottom of the Championship and out of a major cup competition.

Didnt last long.

Why sack him? He had a 100% record.

On a serious note, I reckon SLP could be right. Fucking hilarious Sowper Kev turned them down for West Brom btw.

Some are turning their nose up at Ranieri on the SMB, with one lad claiming that Ranieri's agents have approached Sunderland on numerous occasions, but the club have told him they don't want him. ;)
