Girl kept in cellar for 8 years

Recommended Posts

Unbelievable how someone could do that to a young girl for so long.

I can understand how she might not want to attempt an escape or grow fond of him, years of fear with him as her only contact could have led to brainwashing and her not knowing anything different.

A very sad story.

Only good thing is the bloke who did it killed himself.

Interesting sentiments from someone who doesn't believe in the death penalty.

Absolutely horrendous story. I can't think how she can ever lead a normal life when half of her life (more than half of her "memorable" life") is of living in a cellar and being abused.

She's basically missed out on everything normal in the years that mould what sort of a person you become. Bizarre to even think about. Hopefully she can cope with it all.

No, I'll explain the difference and the reasons why I'm glad he killed himself but still oppose the death penalty if you really want me too. Is this another of your rants a la, "Anyone who likes Sin City is a twat" btw?

Edit: to, not too. Before you start

For some reason I can't resist HF and Renton for wind ups, although I hope they know it's in jest, I'm just challenging your thinking because it interests me.

You seem to believe he deserves to die for his sins, but presumably don't think that we have the right to take a life. Or is it more the argument that while in a perfect world these things might work in reality it'll be a fecking disaster?

Renton actually successfully turned me off the death penalty recently, I just can't remember the reason!

Pleased he's dead because of what he did, i.e. he was presumably so guilty about his actions and such a coward that he couldn't face the consequences so he's solved a lot of problems himself.

Against the death penalty because I think it's morally wrong to take a life. I would have very severe sentences for something like this though, i.e. banged up for life (not a 'life sentence'). I've become less sure about this standpoint in recent years though because I sometimes find myself thinking 'they should just kill that cunt for what he/she did'. Other reasons included potential miscarriages of justice and I could envisage a situation like in America whereby people are on death row for years and years because of seemingly endless legal wranglings. I'm not convinced it's a deterrent either, which is surely the main reason for having it. It's a cheaper option though

If he was still alive, I'd stick him in solitary confinement and send someone in daily to bot him. For 8 years.

See how he likes THEM apples!

You enjoying it? It's pretty gruesome but it's a quality series.

You'll be Leazes in twenty years.

Regarding "endless legal wranglings", there's a very straight forward solution - the first people on death row should be all the legal  professionals  . But from a purely pragmatic point of view, the only reason to kill them instead of throw away the key is money, and not real money either, but money in the most ethereal sense. I'm not quite that cold.

I've never bought the deterrent argument, either, my argument has always been a simple removal from society, for the benefit of society. Though with these spates of random attacks that seem so prevalent in western society they might think twice if they saw their mate gunned down by the police for waving a knife about, now there's a world I want to live in! Oh, and I think we need to look at lowering the age at which people are tried in big boys court to 15.

I'm trying to figure out how messed up you lot must be, I saw about ten minutes of Oz about 2/3 years ago and had to turn it off because it was just too much.
