Woodgate back in Real Madrid fold

Woodgate to make juniors return

Jonathan Woodgate has been included in the Real Madrid squad to face the Major League Soccer All-Stars in the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old, who signed from Newcastle in August 2004, returned from a 16-month injury lay-off last week when he played for Real's youth team.

"At the moment the plan is for Woodgate to play a game on Wednesday," said Real coach Wanderley Luxemburgo.

"I have not decided whether he will play on Tuesday or not."

The £13.4m acquistion has not appeared for the Bernabeu side since tearing a thigh muscle while playing for Newcastle against Chelsea in April 2004.

Woodgate was close to making his Real debut last October before suffering a recurrence of the injury in training that ruled him out for the rest of last season.

Real Madrid vice-president Emilio Butragueno believes that Woodgate will eventually be an important asset to the club.

"Woodgate is going to surprise a lot of people because he is going to become one of our most important recruits of the season," said Butragueno.

"He has sacrificed a great deal and now is the time for him to get his reward."

good luck to the Guy.
