Ok, this Green Day album just got...... poppy? WTF? Kill the DJ sounds like something I'd expect some faux-indy, 80's-inspired pop guitar band to produce.

Green Day were good a very long time ago until they started wearing eye liner and pandering to teenage girls. Now they are a pop group and shit.

"Lads! Lads! I've come on here to recommend this band, honestly you'll have never heard anything like them and they'll blow your mind. You ever heard of a little number called Duran Duran?!"

Hey Bonny lad, some of us were on the front lines of the80's! We made it the decade it was! When music was music, not this noise you get today.

Old skool.

New albums from Muse, Ben Folds Five, Jonny Greenwood and Flying Lotus on the ipod for this week.

What's the new Muse stuff like? I heard one of their new songs at the Olympics and it was crap. Have they started doing rock music again, because their old stuff was amazing!

This new Mumford & Sons one is almost indistinguishable from album one. Any song from it would slot onto that album without incongruity.

I liked the first album, so no bad thing as far as I'm concerned.....I envisage a Gomez style backlash and a return to smaller venues pretty soon though.

At least Gomez had a little bit of creativity. Fucking hate mumford & sons.

First 5 tracks on that album are pure gold. Simple as that.

You're not wrong :) In fact, I've been listening to quite a bit of his older stuff just recently. I'm sure I've said this before in this thread, but if you haven't got it; get his Live at Rock Palast bootleg. He does The River and goes straight into Burning Hell. Its essentially 19mins of slide guitar porn. Fucking lovely.

Continues the recent trend of Queen style pomp rock, with added hints of David Bowie, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, ELO, Tinnie Tempah, Prince, Talking Heads and Kanye West. Panic Station brings all of these to mind in 3 minutes, a minute in I thought it was a laughable rip-off, but by the end I was amazed so many funky 80's references had been whittled into one track. Best song on the album.

Don't know if I mis-remember the last couple but they didn't seem to have so much chart dance sounds. Lots of processed bass that makes me think they'll attract a new audience but alienate the rock core that loved the first 2 or 3 albums.

I'll always like that Matt fellas guitar and keyboard workouts though. Think I've enjoyed the madness of it more on first listen than I did their other recent ones.

Does every one of their albums say how now is "The time..." for whatever? It's been 15 years of the time for something biblical and something revolutionary and some almighty rock.

Yeah, got that. Not listened to it in ages, completely doesn't ring a bell that bit. And I LOVE The River. Lets see where that's saved...

There it is. I do love a nice bit of slide. I fucking love that riff.

Also, his singing isn't as bad as I thought I remembered it being on that album. Definitely not like his early days. Must be getting it confused with the Live at the Cabooze bootleg.
