However, England has, as we all know, a law that says that the monarch is succeeded by his/her eldest son, and only if there are no sons, does the eldest daughter get a look in. Is Scotland going to ponder the fairness of this, or will they just follow whatever Westminster says (surely this would be totally against everything the SNP stands for). Also, what would be wrong with Scotland inviting Prince Andrew to be king, or indeed Princess Anne to be queen as she is the 2nd oldest of the Queen's children. Then they would still have a monarch who was directly descended from James Stewart. And how would people feel if England and Scotland were separate states, but had the same monarch? That's how it was from 1603 to 1707. What if there was a war between England and Scotland? Who would the monarch support?
