Adams Handed Pompey Job - Report

Portsmouth's search for a new manager is reportedly over as they are set to unveil Tony Adams as Harry Redknapp's permanent replacement...

According to The Sun, Adams has been in talks with the Pompey board since declaring his interest in the job on Sunday evening.

The former Arsenal captain was Redknapp's right-hand man before the now Tottenham Hotspur boss made his surprise exit from Fratton Park on Saturday.

Adams is very highly rated by Redknapp, who is on the record as telling Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie: "You’ve got Joe (Jordan) and Tony and they are terrific guys. Tony is up-and-coming in the managerial game and works very hard."

Sam Allardyce was the favourite to take the helm on the South Coast, but the club ruled out the former Bolton Wanderers manager after hearing his wage demands and the number of staff he planned to bring with him.

Happy Face
Former Portsmouth Football Club manager Harry Redknapp faced boos as he was made a freeman of the Hampshire city just days after quitting the club.

Redknapp left Fratton Park to take charge of Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

But the 61-year-old was always due to collect the honour on Tuesday after guiding Portsmouth to FA Cup success last season, their first in 69 years.

Redknapp faced boos and shouts of "Judas" as he arrived for the ceremony.

Hundreds of people gathered at Portsmouth Guildhall for the event, which also recognised the Pompey cup final players.

As he walked up to the stage in the Guildhall, there were loud boos from the public and shouts of "Judas", while his replacement, Tony Adams, enjoyed loud cheers and chants of "Tony".

During the ceremony, a procession carrying the FA Cup escorted by a Royal Navy Guard was accompanied by music from the Royal Navy Guard and the Royal Marines Band Portsmouth.

In May Redknapp led Pompey to their first FA Cup triumph in more than 60 years with a 1-0 win over Cardiff.

But Redknapp joined Tottenham after the north Londoners sacked Spanish manager Juande Ramos following the club's worst ever start to a season.

On Tuesday, former Arsenal and England defender Tony Adams was promoted from Redknapp's assistant to become the club's new manager.

Just saw the interview with him and was surprised how self-actualized he is. A real thinker with a touch of mischief. He will do well imo.

Adams will be a very good coach in my opinion.

Well his coaching skills didn't do Stevie Taylor any good when he was at Wycombe :icon_lol:
