  1. skysports:

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley to pay non-football staff £1m bonus if team beats Arsenal tomorrow

    This news pleases me immensely.

That said, it also adds fuel to the 'It's the hope that kills you' fire.

  2. I obviously don't watch as much NUFC as you, but it seems to me you have some excellent players, some of the best in the league in fact, but not a whole lot of cohesion.

I reckon if you get a decent start, and confidence builds, there's no reason you shouldn't be challenging for the European spots. Obviously need to hold on to your better players though.

  3. Well I for one hope your players aren't already on the beach when this match comes around!

Can't see Wigan getting anything against Arsenal, so it'll likely come down to the last match.

I'm hoping the whole 'pressure off' thing will make a difference and you'll turn up pinging it about like 1970s Brazil!

  4. Reasonable, but surely it's fair to say that without Bale you're in a much worse state?

If Bale had to limp off I'd have fancied us to get a draw at the very least. Everything good about Spurs went through Bale and when Real, PSG, Man U or whomever come in for him I don't believe the promise of Champions League appearances and the occasional domestic cup will be enough to convince him to stay.

I think barring one or two obvious exceptions, most teams would miss Bale if he left them.

You may be right, he's getting better every year and unless Spurs invest significantly in the Summer, which is unlikely given the new stadium being built, he'll be off. If we qualify for the Champions League, I reckon he'll give us another season, if we don't I think he'll go this summer. You know what Levy is like though, it'll take silly money to offload him - probably £40m at least if it's a Spanish side (preferable) or a lot more if an English club wants him.

Without looking too much into it first stat I looked at was sissokos, he's got two goals and an assist after his two games. Are the rest of the stats correct?...... Thought bale was the difference today and dembele really struggled. Usually a top player is he injured at the moment or just struggling to find form?

I can't vouch for the accuracy really, the bloke that runs the site they are from ( http://www.myfootballfacts.com/ ) is a Spurs fan, so I'd imagine more importance is placed on our stats.

Dembele started amazingly, but like a few others in the side has gone off the boil in recent weeks. He's a good player though. no doubt. He did pick up a knock recently.

  5. Fair result I thought.

Bale is in great form, and it's good timing as the rest of the side aren't clicking at the minute., but all the 'one man team' stuff is a bit off in my view. Yes he's our most talented player, but the rest of the team muck in too, as these pre-match stats confirm:

Thought you looked very good in spells, especially first half, and it was fairly even until Gouffran went off.

Chin up, you're nailed on to be challenging for the European spots next season.

  6. How many clubs currently make that kind of loss, and of those how many have spent their way to a plateau which means they'd no longer need to spend vast sums?

I read yesterday that only Man City and Liverpool have done it in recent years.

So basically, it'll change very little.

  7. While Bale has been great recently, so has Lennon - he's having arguably his best season for Spurs so he could be dangerous for you as well.

On Adebayor, meh, he's up to his old tricks again. I heard City and Arsenal fans complaining that after an encouraging start to his stints at both of their clubs he took the foot off the gas and ambled about. Well, he's been average at best this season, and this whole business of a late return from the AFCON isn't exactly showing him in great light.

  8. 'lo all!

Pretty spectacular match from your lads yesterday, was very impressed.

Despite a decent unbeaten league run, apart from the 2nd half against Man United (where we battered them) we've actually stumbled through a lot of games not playing all that well.

A bit of magic here and there from Bale has pulled us through the last two matches.

Going on your performance yesterday (and I can only really go by that given the influx of new players) and our relatively poor form, I wouldn't be amazed if this ended a draw, or by 1 goal each way. Tough to call.

No Defoe - it was Sod's law he'd get injured straight after not buying a striker in the window. Bit gutted about that.

Ade is back, but he's been shite for weeks. Well, I dunno if it's shiteness, or lack of effort, either way it's been like playing with 10 men.

Dempsey's been a bit hot and cold with his performances, but has 5 goals in the last 6 games, so must be doing something right.

Encouraging signs from Holtby though, he looks a very good player, I'm personally hoping he can hit it off immediately and strike up an understanding with Ade.

Should be a good match, I'd imagine both teams will be in the 'fuck it, lets go for the win' mood.

    I can live with that!

  9. I thought you were the better side in the first half and we were fortunate to not be behind. I thought our strength told in the second half we were very well organised, as you were to be fair, and definitely edged the second, I've seen us deserve a draw and lose loads of times though so my sympathy is pretty thin on the ground. Your fans are absolute wanks as well, your support makes Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham seem decent. It irritates the life out of me that your support believe you're a big club, you're not, you've come top 4 once in 20 years, and when they scored they're hanging over the top giving it the biggie, fucking loved it when we got the winner. However, you seem a canny bloke though to be fair.

    Love you too xxx

  10. Cheers Dave. I thought you were the better side fwiw, just as you say lacked a bit of a focal point for your attacks. We probably shaded the second half but you were clearly better in the first.

Make sure you come back and give us your thoughts on AVB once he has had a few games, be interested to hear how he is getting along.

I will, in fact I intend on annoying you all season.

  11. I reckon you'll come good as long as you adequately replace Modric.

You had no real drive from midfield to support Defoe. Defoe worked his bollocks off throughout and deserved a goal, but your only other threats were coming from out wide.

    Easier said than done though.

I know a lot of the rest of the league think Modric is overrated, but he really is (was) the catalyst for pretty much every thing Spurs do/did. He doesn't score but boy can he spot a brilliant pass.

No use lamenting, the geezer's gone.

I agree, Defoe ran his socks off, and I'm not knocking him at all, it's just this system isn't set up for him, he's not a the target man type.

  12. Congrats lads (and possibly lasses, but doubt it).

Good result for you, thought a draw would have been fairer blah blah blah

Superb finish from Ba, can't argue with that kind of quality.

As for Spurs, I think our toothlessness (word?) upfront was evident, we had decent possession and movement, unfortunately there was no one upfront to make any of it count. No focal point etc blah blah blah

Oh well, still a bit of the window left.

Good luck for the season, see you at the Lane....
