After another disappointing summer, I wonder where is all the money gone and why M Ashley seems to have no interest to strength the squad to achieve a better league position. The PL prize money distribution gives me some clue. Apparently, despite finishing bottom 5 last season, we still got £45M, which is only £3M less than 8th place West Brom. Compared to his investment in Sports Direct, which by the way is heading for FTSE100 (at today's market value it's worth almost £4bn, MA owns 65% of the company), the return on investment to NUFC would have been much worse than Sports Direct. IMO, MA just uses NUFC as his free publicity for his big business. That explains the arrival of JK. Bad publicity is better than no publicity. Hiring JK is much cheaper than buying a good striker, plus he gets more attention from the press than a mediocre striker would ever get. It's unfortunate for us fans that we have such an owner. NUFC is making profits despite a wage bill of over £64M. The way I see it, we have to get relegated again to make NUFC a good investment opportunity and hope someone with a genuine love for football takes over. Otherwise, MA simply doesn't care whether we finish 16th or 5th.
