  1. The mackem game has now been rescheduled to an earlier KO time of 1.30 on request of the OB!

No suprise there to be fair, always thought it was a bit suspect the later KO than in zee past.

Seemingly the OB have been in dispute with the club since the fixtures were announced. Police view is noon kick off (understandably), the new head of security at SJP is an ex Northumbria Police chief who is arguing that we can reduce the numbers of officers in the ground and therefore the police bill. He reckons Phoenix security can handle everything in the ground with police only involved outside (where the cost is not NUFCs). To back this up the club refused any change of time as that would be confirming the security fears and diluting the argument.

It looks like this is a compromise time and hopefully sense will prevail when it comes to policing inside the ground otherwise I dread to imagine what kind of cocktail of violence would be created when you mix Gremlins, SCs, a day on the beer and Phoenix security into Level 7.

I've noticed there are fewer Police in the ground this season as it happens. Still a fair number in Level 7 Leazes keeping segregation and nicking away fans, but not noticeable in such numbers in other parts of the ground as in the past.

  2. People will have just watched it on the tele, especially with the free Sky thing. Our attendance for Arsenal was probably brought down by about 2k or so with it being on ESPN, it was just under 39k iirc.

How many did Stoke bring up this weekend?

    about 800

  3. Somethings going on at his place, couple of copper cars been there for the last few hours and theres both CID and normal rozzers wandering in and out with blue gloves on.

    Anything further on this?

He's been out with a mysterious injury for quite a while now with little or no information about it being forthcoming.

  4. Earl Barrett did come from Oldham 19 years ago. At the time, as Britain's most racist club, the fans were up in arms at signing a black player. It says everything about the club that Earl Barrett in 1991 (NINETEEN NINETY ONE), was the first black player in the history of Everton Football Club.

    Simply not true.

    What's not true? Halfcaste's don't count.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2000/jan/07/race.world

And Cliff Marshall was no 'halfcaste'.

Also, well done on linking to an article where we come out as the fifth most racist club.

He hardly counts, 7 games in the 70's. Their first proper signed black player was Earl Barrett, that's a fact and that's the nature of the club. Cliff Marshall I bet he was on the tip of your tongue.....

So the 'halfcaste' who scored two goals for them in an FA Cup final doesn't count either?

And I didn't claim to know any of this myself, I just knew that you were wrong. Whether they played 7 or 700 games, they had still signed black players before Earl Barrett.

And I'm also not saying that they didn't have a big problem with racism.

I thought Dixie Dean was half caste or mixed race or whatever the politically correct term is these days?

  5. Was Budgie the one who got collared for selling knock off jeans to YTS kids from the boot of his car when he was at Darlo or Hartlepool or somewhere like that? He was supposed to be a bit of a mentalist.

Aye that's him. And he was fucking nuts. Anyone who remembers him playing for us will remember his warm-up antics

He was on a documentary practising his saves in bed. With his Mrs next to him reading her book

He sat next to us at the 4 team tournament at SJP in 1992 involving Us, Boro, Sporting Lisbon and someone else who's name escapes me.

His wife was with him then and spent the entire time reading a book then as well.

He was wearing a hideous all in one army green cotton jumpsuit and spent the entire time criticising the Boro Goalkeeper, Hitchcock i think he was called.

  6. Krul looks solid and commands his box well and in his limited appearances he hasn't conceded. Soderberg will warm the bench as we can't get Forster back from Celtic.

he conceded 3 against Huddersfield, 2 Against Peterborough and another 2 against Accrington Stanley :)

  7. Oh aye, and i'd rather we secured promotion at home to Blackpool next saturday so the Sky cameras aren't there.

    because...?

Because i'm sick of them moving our fixtures to try and make sure they're there to capture the moment, eg last monday night when if played on the saturday we would have had 50K in the ground.

Same with Plymouth away, switched because they thought that was when we would secure promotion.

I'd rather we did it at home, in a proper 3PM saturday kick off so that those loyal enough to support the team all season through the turnstiles can see it without Sky being there.

  8. I was there the last for the last league fixture between the two sides in 1992, and there was at least 10000 toon fans that day. It was dangerously full imo, it wasn't all ticket iirc and they just let everyone in. Anyone with the promotion video look how packed the end is when Sheedy scores.
I was standing to the far left of the terrace (right if your looking from the pitch) and actually had loads of room and wasn't packed in at all, whereas as you say right behind the goal and to the right of the terracing on the tv footage looks chocka. You can see 2 of my mates up opn the fence when Sheedy scores as well.
  9. Has anyone got the latest edition of True Faith? There's a picture in there of about 400 toon fans on the pitch at Forest away, in what looks like the mid 80's. Does anyone know why this happened?

Last game of the season 1987.

We lost 2-1 and Gazza scored the consolation for us in the 2nd half.

Pre match about 150 Newcastle (Gremlins who were back then the young uns) had got in the main stand seats and were escorted out and around the pitch by the police who tried to put them on the terracing behind the fences but the first 70 or 80 legged it into the seats in the new (at the time) stand which was also allocated to Newcastle and just squashed in. At full time the Newcastle in the seats invaded the pitch (being the last game of the season and that) and Nottingham Forest fans did the same from the other side and from the Trent end but were chased off by sheer weight of numbers before regrouping and having a little bit of toing and froing on the pitch with the Newcastle lads who also tried to break the cross bar.

  10. I always preferred Robbie Elliot there actually. He was class before injuries knackered him. Not just at LB but often filled in well as midfielder or even at CB on occasion. Loved a 50-50 you might say ;)

The thing is Ellliot was what I call a "footballer" - the way he addressed the ball (using a golfing tem) for me showed he had talent beyond people simply making a living out of the game - see Scott Sellars for another example and also why I'd choose Peacock over Guttierez.

Peacock played up front with Kelly for the vast majority of that season though, not wide.

  11. Be fucking gutted if we don't win the league now after being top for so long and being so far ahead at times as well.

Be forever labelled bottle jobs just like 1996 again.

We simply have to try and win every single game because i hinestly think WBA are on such a good run that they will win every game.

  12. Sat down to fill my form in tonight and realised what a good deal they've done. I sit in L7 Milburn towards the Leazes and the discounted 3 year price is £494 which is down from £611 I paid last year (after early bird price or whatever it was) so I'm doing the 1 year single /2 year DD thing.

I phoned my mate to check that they hadn't fucked up and he confirmed its correct - we reckon they must have assessed the L7 wings and realised we've been charged too much in the past so have adjusted it (as well as using the gallowgate section for families).

Aye, me as well although i'm nearer the centre circle than the "D" at the Leazes End.

I'd already paid for next season through the free cup tie thing and had been charged £630 and apparently there are refund cheques coming in July.

My letter didn't say that, but the girl in the ticket office i spoke to has sent me the letter i should have got telling me that.

I've signed up for the next 2 seasons on the pay monthly thing at £494.00.

  13. Stevie, don't take it to heart lad, just ignore the abuse which isn't "real" in any case, just some peoples idea of initiating new members by trying to get a rise out of them.

as regards kids on their, there aren't many to be truthful.

And i'm assuming Legend of the Pie is the mackem you think is the best kid on their? Beware, he's just lulling you into a false sense of security, he's as bitter as Theakstons Best man!

I don't take the internet seriously ujpest, and can give as good as I get.

They all seem to hate Leazes Mag.

Just a couple of people who he's had spats with i think.

A few on the other hand have actually met him and think he's sound.

I think his support for FFS is a bit misguided, but can see where he's coming from in that he was better than some we'd had in the past.

to be honest Ujpest.........all the lads I've met from skunkers are good lads, who the fuck takes all that stuff on there seriously anyway ?

Divvent take any of it seriously but its not my cup of tea, its got its place but only when I feel like it. Stevie is finding that out now it would appear, I thought you were possibly going to join the Fairs Club ?

Winchester asked me to join the Fairs Club but to be honest i don't really have the time or money.

I've 2 Young Uns aged 5 and 1 and these days, apart from home games, they take up all of my spare time.

  16. He offered his resignation after the players expressed a desire to wear the traditional Juventus strip that they wore against us in their centenary celebrations ie the Pink one.

Deschamps said that he didn't like that as "in my country pink is worn by faggots" which caused a major row resulting in him apologising and offering to resign.

  17. Isn't he in Barbados or something?

    156882[/snapback]

He was in St Barts on Saturday definately.

He was shown on SSN playing football on the beach and it said he then watched the England game.

Due tot he 5 hour time difference and timing of flights etc, he could conceivaebly have flown to London on saturday night (arriving Sunday morning) and been up here on Monday/Tuesday.

Until theres a positive sighting in KFC i will reserve judgement.

EDIT : He must have flown back on saturdya/sunday as Spurs started pre season training on wednesday.
