  6. Rooney belatedly confirms Toon bid A newspaper story broken by Bob Cass back in 2004 about Newcastle attempting to secure the transfer of Wayne Rooney has now been confirmed - by the player himself. In his forthcoming book (can't wait for that one), Rooney talks of arguments at Goodison Park with David Moyes and that in his desparation to leave Goodison: "If no-one else had come in I would have gone to Newcastle."

  10. Waiting for L'OM While United defender Jean-Alain Boumsong holidays in South Africa with his international colleague Lilian Thuram, moves continue to secure his return to France for next season. Marseille remain favourites but there seems to be some horse-trading still to be done, with the side from the Velodrome apparently unwilling or unable to meet our valuation. Marseille general manager Pape Diouf has been quoted as follows: "Jean-Alain Boumsong is an experienced player who is part of the French team and who has shown all of his defensive efficiency in Ligue 1. "His transfer is complex on a financial level, as with every player who is in England, but we will go on with this case." There's now speculation that Marseille will turn their attentions to Siena's Croatian centre back Igor Tudor if they're unable to strike a deal with United. It remains to be seen whether this is a smokescreen or genuine interest. PS - inbound? nowt yet.

  22. Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has reiterated the club's stance that Michael Owen will not be made available for transfer in the summer. Owen was one of last summer's most high profile signings when quitting Real Madrid for Tyneside. The England marksman was billed as the man to fire Newcastle back into the UEFA Champions League reckoning. However, things have not gone according to plan as Newcastle have badly underperformed and Owen has been on the sidelines since December with a foot injury. It has been suggested that Owen would not accept a second successive season without European football, which now seems certain, and will look for a route out of St James' Park. Shepherd has repeatedly denied stories concerning Owen's departure and was steadfast on the subject on Tuesday. "Michael is on a four-year contract with us and we do not see any reason why he will not see that out. It's a simple as that," Shepherd told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. what a load of balls, if the club was offered a small profit on his fee then shepard would sell him like he did with woodgate
