The 23-year-old right-back has had a highly successful loan spell at St James' Park over the opening half of the season. He returned to Old Trafford on Tuesday, as talks over a permanent deal failed to materialise. However, the two clubs have now agreed terms and Simpson is set to pen a permanent deal on Tyneside. case closed then Stop being so pedantic. Manure played badly, Leeds played well. Beckford looked dangerous against them. Simple. Buying any striker is a risk, especialy one that looks like he thrives on good service from midfield and is "just" a finisher. Both things in short supply at NUFC. We are gonna have to take that risk on someone and Beckford seems to fit with what we need/can afford. Andy Cole or DJCampbell... time will tell I suppose!

From what I've seen Simpson is a better defender than Carr, who was acceptable (when fit) in the Premiership. His attacking progress is probably stymied by playing behind Guthrie most of the season. In other words having the whole right wing to defend by himself while Guthrie's in the middle. If we get a quality, chalk on boots, right winger. Maybe even Pancrate gets a propper run and becomes a bigger asset, I'm sure Simpson will start to shine. Manure signed him for a reason. Fergie has opted for two young brazillian attacking full backs. This change of tactics probably made Simpson surplus to requirements, thus sold to us.
