  2. A ref's perspective from football365.com "We had a period of time at the start of the season where all the focus was on bad tackles for a few weeks. This week, as well as the Gerrard incident, we saw Cheik Tiote sent off in Newcastle's dismal defeat at Stevenage. We have a real issue now with another lazy phrase which is creeping into commentators, fans and pundits parlance. 'You can't leave the ground' is the new 'you can't raise your hands' - and is equally asinine. You are allowed to strap on your back a harness and a jet pack as long as when the actual challenge comes in you are safe with it. It is possible. It is harder, I'll admit, to be safe if you are taking off at pace, but not impossible. The angle of the challenge makes a huge difference. A jumping tackle face on is much more dangerous that one where you are going round the side. Tiote did exactly that - he took off when round the opponent in the air and hooked his foot around. Not only did I not think it was a red card, I didn't think it was a foul. You have to ignore the portion where he is airborne, and just watch the tackle. There is nothing wrong with it. A foul tackle which earns you a red card is defined as serious foul play. The definition in the Law Book of serious foul play is one which is very easy to make your own interpretation of. Here's how it starts: 'A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play.' I wouldn't say that Tiote used excessive force or brutality. Nowhere near it. But the definition continues: 'A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play.' This is where you will get discrepancies. Clearly referee Andre Marriner and his assistant took the view that Tiote endangered the safety of his opponent. I just think that was very harsh, because although his technique was unorthodox, when I break it down I can find little wrong." Make of that what you will
  3. Apparently he is a distant relative of Derek Llamabias I'll get me coat.....
  4. What makes it worse is the fact that after tonight's games one of USA, Uruguay, South Korea or Ghana will definitely be in the semi-finals. Now had we won the softest group.... Still, it's not like we have any history with Germany and Argentina. Oh, wait.... What a great opportunity we have missed - I reckon USA could make the semis It means we may have to beat Germany, Argentina, Spain and Brazil to win the World Cup This "easiest group in the competion" bollocks is really beginning to chap my arse. All 4 teams in our group are in the top 30 in the world, nearly every other group has some no mark whipping boy. Based on the fifa world rankings, assuming you only need to to do better than the third best team in your group to qualify, Holland, Spain, Italy, and both Brazil and Portugal had easier groups to qualify from. The real "group of death" was France's group, with the top team (France - 9th) and the third best (Mexico - 17th) being seperated by only 8 places. How well are the 2 teams in bold coping with their easy groups?
  5. Being done, post 15, try again no need to be crude
  6. Whilst not on the topic of evil government scams, i had to smile at "The photos, many of them never seen before, were taken by Detective Greg Semendinger in a New York Police Department helicopter "
  7. Yeah, that would be Kevin Pollak - him off of the Usual Suspects
  8. Just spat out me cornflakes watching the repeat of MotD with Lineker having a dig a Shearer for kicking Lennon in the face

  10. Useful if you get Alzheimers I suppose. You should suggest he goes the whole hog and has his name, address, important birthdays, passwords and PIN code tattoed on there as well. There's plenty of room. Been watching Memento? No, is it worth watching? Hell, yes
  11. At 25 but haven't really concentrated yet
  12. Having watched everything on Setanta, just how much of a cunt was the guy interviewing Southgate? We won and I am fucking stoked but tbf if i had been stood anywhere near those two I would quite happily stoved that fucka's heed in
  13. Bonus points to Jim Beglin for saying that South Korean Park scored with a lovely Dink
  14. neither one of them are top billing box office draws though. I imagine Kenny Baker has a fair amount of box office performance behind him. In relation to the wages paid/box office returns, I'm sure he is king. But Will Smith can make a shit film guarantee it's cost back + about $100 million. Neither Samuel or Hugo can do that Or Warwick Davis for that matter
  15. Thats a damn lot of money, thats only at the box office, there is other stuff on top of that. Whatever anyone might say about some of his films, he is currently the "biggest" star in hollywood and has been for some time. There is noone close to him in terms of guaranteed box office. This disappointing thing is 2003 Bad Boys II $273,339,556 2001 Ali $87,713,825 Some people should have their cinema going priveleges revoked
  16. Jade Goody has cervical cancer. Christina Applegate has had a double mastectomy follwing breast cancer. I, for one can tell you which of those concerns me the most
  17. I'd like to say I'm intrigued by this, but I can't help thinking that Hicks himself would hate the idea. All they need to do is get some corporate sponsorship for the film and they could power LA for a decade just from the spinning in his grave
  18. Have a soft spot for Dairylea slices and cream crackers. With peanut butter if i feel like a deviant
  19. Just give NR a call and ask for a redemption statement (check there is no charge for this first). That will legally have to detail any balance outstanding + any charges or penalties. NR do charge an exit fee of about £225 for any mortgage account closure, but the penalty (will be shown as Early Repayment Charge) is entirely dependent on your mortgage deal. They do tend to be buggers for fees though, always have been. BTW if a penalty exists, all lenders will charge it whether you stay with them or go elsewhere. /climbs down off dull mortgage advisor soapbox
