  1. This is the match thread. You can imagine the yank press making this in to 1854 or whenever it was when those mugs got their independence, they always seem to forget it was English v English in essence, so no they didn't win, same as they didn't win the Vietnam War, and never win any war without our help. More like 1950, but whatever. I'm not one to split hairs. Only yanks count that one, we hit the post 7 times apparently. The people at the end of the telegram line thought there was a mistake in the message they thought it was USA 1 England 10, and a one had been missing off. We could've given the Italians a run for their money for arrogance back then. Right. The Yank press is making it into that, instead of 1854(?). That was my point. I generally disregard sporting results that didn't take place in my lifetime as precursors for results. Can't wait for the match Saturday.

  3. That just sounds like Weeds but without the clunge. Sort of is, but is way more dramatic (in a good way). It's well done. I watched the first season, but couldn't seem to catch it during it's second. Keep saying I need to pick it up on DVD, but just never have. Great show though.
  4. All called Kevin. Jee wizz, thanks wacky "So wot you fink, Mr. Bat? The Killers or Arctic Monkeys for my signature picture tonight?"
  5. I feel bad for my man Tim Howard.
  6. True fucking 'dat, man. You got problems? Deal with them yourself- don't make everyone else pay for your shortcomings or broken dreams or small cock or whatthefuckever. Sidenote- what's the rules on shotguns over there? Can you guys own pump actions or is it strictly break action breech load? Don't mean to be offensive, just curious.
  7. Wasn't Del Toro associated with an At The Mountains of Madness movie at some point a year or two ago? Now there's a movie I'd love to see. That's my favorite Lovecraft story.
  8. YEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! DUNH, DUNH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Very close friend of mine was stationed over there in the mid-90's when he was in the Air Force. He used to write me and say that whenever NK inevitably attacks/ invades/ nukes SK, it should come to a surprise to no one. He said they got pretty close twice when he was over there- man the wall drills and all that. Not sure what our connection to SK is exactly, nothing particularly obvious (i.e. oil) other than grandfather bases from the Korean War (and maybe intelligence opportunities regarding China), but I doubt we'd hang them out to dry if/ when NK tries something.
  10. Maybe it's to negate some of the effects of the 2012 solar flare...
  11. Wish I knew if you were being sarcastic or not...
  12. there you go. read and enjoy! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenith_%28comics%29 Ah! I like Grant Morrison's stuff. Cheers man! I'll check it out!
  13. My favorite jet exhaust style is donuts on a rope produced by pulse detonation wave engines.
  14. For reals, man! There's some really well written stuff out there in the GN format. I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time finding books I like. Seems like with movies and music, I know enough people and know some reviewers that have similar tastes to mine that I don't have (much) trouble finding new music or movies to dig on, but books is tough. The real problem is I don't have a week of evenings/ mornings/ whatever to waste on a shitty book and I hate starting and not finishing a book. That's where the GNs come in- most GNs can be read in one sitting, 30-60 minutes. I get a little reading in and if it sucks, I haven't wasted a bunch of time on it. Axeman, I haven't read Zenith- what's the story about that? I've heard of 2000 A.D. though- they did Judge Dredd back in the day, right?
  15. Just happened to be reading the Wikipedia entry on The Walking Dead earlier today and it seems as though the TV version is going to start airing this October. Don't know what channel it'd be for you guys, over here it's going to be on AMC which is the same network as Mad Men and Breaking Bad. If it's as good as the comic, and with Frank Darabont being heavily involved (writer, director, exec. producer), I don't see how it can't be, it's going to be awesome. Absolutely cannot wait!
  16. Chantix is varenicline, which has been approved by NICE iirc, so available on the NHS in principle. I can't remember how it compares with nicotine replacement therapy. Seems like over-medicalising a problem which can be solved with will power alone if I'm honest. Fuckin' hell man, check your avatar. I do agree with you though- quitting smoking isn't as tough as people make it out to be, at least the physical addiction part. When I was smoking, you'd hear all this about smoking being more addictive than heroin and all that... it's all in your mind. I smoked for almost 20 years and was shocked at how quickly the physical addiction breaks. It's really all just mental triggers in my opinion. I still have a hard time walking into convenince stores and not buying a pack, but paying at the pump with my debit card has really helped that. The only real triggers I still struggle with at this point are long drives in the car (like more than 30 minutes or so) and just after I smoke a joint. Those are still tough, but I haven't been high in months and the drive to work is as much apprehension at what's waiting for me when I get here as anything. And quitting is a good thing. Really. You notice the effects almost immediately. For reals.
  17. Its not a case of anyone being superior to anyone else, its just the way we are wired with different mindsets. Some people need to know how a magic trick works, others just enjoy the trick. Its a bit harsh that most of the criticism on here over the last day has come from people who didnt even stay til the end. The problem with "not nitpicking over forgotten Walts, etc." is that a lot of those aforementioned "missing details" are why we got interested in the show to begin with. That being said, I'm over it. If you enjoyed the last two seasons and the finale, then kudos to you (and by you, I mean anyone in the thread who dug the ending- not necessarily you, CT). I'm not one of those vindictive turds that tries to ruin it for everyone else. It's not like after being a total fanatic for seasons 1-4 I suddenly decided to start hating the show- I was just disappointed in the drop off in writing quality and the direction they decided to take the show. I kept thinking that maybe, just maybe, they'd reel it back in and somehow it'd all make a lot of sense and I'd end up with a lot of egg on my face for dissing the past two seasons, and trust me when I say nothing would have made me happier than to watch a cool finale and go, "Oh shit- I've got to go back and watch seasons 5 and 6 again! I totally whiffed it!" And as far as American dramas- Damages, True Blood, Rescue Me, and Dexter have all kept my interest for more than one season. Take it for what it's worth. As an aside, have you been watching V at all? I know it's been on for a bit over here but with it finished in your neck of the woods, how was it? I don't want to start watching it if it's going to have a dodgy ending. I really haven't man, I tried getting into it when they had that little 4 episode mini-series or whatever awhile back, but the fucking green screens of the space ship interiors are sooooo bad, it just totally takes me out of the moment every time I try and watch. My wife was DVRing it for awhile, but I don't think she's watched it for the past month or so. I've seen episodes here and there watching them with her, and I just couldn't really get into it. Seemed like a whole lot of going back and forth from the planet to the ships kinda like how on LOST they were always walking to the beach from the jungle or vice versa.
  18. See guys, this is why you should never sell yourselves short or talk yourself out of talking to a girl out of your league. That turd was banging Brittany Murphy.
  19. If you don't suffer from clinical depression, Chantix is a great way to stop smoking. Gives you crazy ass dreams/ nightmares though. Just be sure to stay on it for at least a couple of months. I went off of it after a month because I felt like it had done it's job and it was making my depression really, significantly worse, and relapsed for a bit not long after. It's great stuff though if your head can take it. I went from over a pack a day to four or five within a week and it was a very painless process. You just don't get the cravings at all. EDIT: One thing though, if you've smoked for very long at all, be prepared to kind of feel like you're half asleep all day after you get off of nicotine. When I wasn't smoking or using any tobacco products at all, I had a really hard time getting my head in the game when the plant would call for support at 1 in the morning or whatever. Also found myself nodding off on the couch and whatnot, which I never used to do. That's why I'm still an occasional tobacco user- there are times when the shit is hitting the fan at work and I have to get sharp very quickly- like I might only have 20 or 30 minutes to go from dead asleep to being at the plant fixing IT or equipment issues. For those times, nicotine is the only way I can wake up that quick- caffeine helps, but it isn't enough by itself.
  20. Thanks again everyone! So, if I post a pic of him in his little bitty Toon kit, will I get shit on for violating the boycott?

  22. And here I was just thinking it was hereditary...
